Tank the 401k: "Lost My Shoe" Edition

Wow. Good thing I didn’t give this column up a few weeks ago! I’m back! A winning weekend – my first one since week one of the college football season, when I went 4-1. I’ve put that bottle of Jack Daniel’s back on the shelf with no butt-chugging in sight. I threw one of my shoes off of the pedestrian bridge in Nashville, just to visualize the fall, but thankfully, it didn’t get bad enough for me to jump to my death in the Cumberland.

Things are indeed looking up, and I’m going to keep this choo-choo train a-going.

Stoney’s Picks

NCAAF: Rutgers +14 vs. Indiana – Yep, I’m going to follow up a winning week by taking Rutgers right off the bat. I don’t see anything wrong with that. The Scarlet Knights are bad, but they hung around with a good Minnesota team on the road. Is Minnesota better than Indiana? I’d say so. I don’t think they win, but I think they cover.

NFL: Atlanta -3.5 @ Tampa Bay – It’s time to buy in on the Falcons in a conference that looks wide open. They lost the first meeting back in week one, 31-24, but Matt Ryan has developed into a legitimate MVP contender. After what the Raiders did to Tampa Bay on Sunday, Atlanta’s offense should be salivating.

NCAAF: Michigan -26.5 vs. Maryland – I usually stay away from spreads like this, but Maryland does not stand a chance. Do not pay attention to the record! The Terrapins will be completely overwhelmed. Michigan wins this one by at least four touchdowns.

NCAAF: Florida State -6 @ NC State – Sure, there’s a bit of potential for the ‘Noles coming out flat after the Clemson game. Sure, there’s a chance NC State comes back to rally after the Boston College loss. I just don’t see it – Florida State has the talent and should blow the Wolfpack out of the water.

NFL: New Orleans -3 @ San Francisco – Chip Kelly’s 49ers would be the NFL’s worst team if the Cleveland Browns didn’t exist. The Saints are riding a huge wave of momentum after defeating Seattle. I have no idea why this spread isn’t up around 6-7.

NCAAF: Georgia-Kentucky, OVER 51 – This matchup could go either way, and I don’t trust either team in a big spot. That being said, this could end up being a 35-30 type of game.

NCAAF: Wyoming -5.5 vs. Utah State – The Cowboys are one of the most underrated teams in the country, “mid-major” or not. I was on to the potential Boise State upset last week, and considering Wyoming is 3-1 against single-digit spreads, I like the matchup. There’s a chance they come out a bit flat after the upset, but Utah State just isn’t very good.

NFL: Tennessee +5.5 @ San Diego – The Titans are absolutely cursed in San Diego, but the Chargers are an absolutely beatable team. Currently, the Titans are the only team in the NFL with a top-10 defense and offense. If they don’t win this one, it’ll be a close one.

Last Week: 5-4
On the Season: 25-41-1 (37.3%)
