So, Kane's Running for Mayor, Huh? Let's Take a Look at His Greatest Qualifications

Some people might call professional wrestling ratchet. Not I, Internet – not I. I find it to be a perfectly acceptable form of entertainment. But, for some, it’s appalling to think of a pro wrestler getting involved in serious business like American politics.

Wrestlers have been tied to politics many times before. Jesse “The Body” Ventura became a governor, Jerry Lawler ran for mayor, and people are already begging Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to run for President in 2020. I get it. As a wrestler, the biggest part of your job is get a crowd of thousands of people behind you or against you.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Glenn Jacobs, better known as the towering WWE villain Kane, is stepping into the political ring with a bid for mayor in Tennessee.

Jacobs has filed paperwork naming a campaign treasurer, the first step needed to raise or spend money in an effort to succeed term-limited Knox County mayor Tim Burchett in 2018.

I’m assuming this is obviously Corporate Kane and not Demon Kane. Demon Kane has done a lot of shit to piss people off. I can’t imagine him winning any sort of election. But, Corporate Kane? Well, now that’s a different story. Corporate Kane is more cunning and savvy than blunt and prone to brutal violence.

Tea party groups urged Jacobs to challenge U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander in the Republican primary in 2014, but he ended up deciding against a run.

Ultimate heel move. You come out and tease the match…you’ve got the crowd behind you…err…tea party groups. And, then, you just turn around and walk away from the fight. Classic.

Jacobs isn’t the first professional wrestling star to try his hand at politics in Tennessee. Jerry “The King” Lawler, who is known for his feud with comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s, has made unsuccessful bids to be elected mayor of Memphis.

I guess us Tennesseans just love our professional wrestlers. Look – if you want a guy who gets things done, Kane is obviously the guy. So, let’s take a look at some of his more relevant qualifications.

First of all, you have to understand that Kane puts results above everything else. No matter the context. No matter the consequence. I mean, just look at what he did to Linda McMahon.

That’s just proper project management.

He also plays well with others. Sometimes, you come across guys who don’t really like to run with people outside their social circle. Not Kane! Kane has always been inclusive and welcoming to outsiders. See Pete Rose, for example.

He’s an outside-the-box thinker. I mean, you want innovative solutions to problems, Kane is your guy.

Most people would just throw some punches, but not Kane. Nope – he’s going to tie you up to the ring post and attach jumper cables to your balls.

Lighting a Hall of Fame announcer on fire is probably a bit too far. Throwing your brother into a casket and lighting in fire is just a tad aggressive.

These two instances show a potential area of improvement. As mayor, I think something you should value is not lighting people on fire.

Other than that, though, I think you’re good to go, Kane.
