UK Followers, Give the People's Republic of Wrestling a Look on July 9!

This may come as a shock to many of you, but we actually have several hundred readers in the UK. About 10% of my Twitter followers are across the pond, and one of my closest friends happens to have come to Tennessee by way of northern England.

So, when Jay of The People’s Republic of Wrestling reached out to me, I was more than happy to answer the call. Of course, I made it abundantly clear that we’re just a shitty little comedy blog out of Nashville, Tennessee. I don’t know how big of a difference we’re going to make here, but I’m happy to help however I can.

On July 9th at Longfield Community Centre in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, P.R.O.W. will be hosting The Birth of the Republic, an event where Jay and company will be raising money for a local publicly-funded charity called Stepping Stones that help children with learning disabilities get the best start in life possible.

Jay started this promotion because of his own learning disabilities. Like many of us, it’s the emotion of pro wrestling that’s inspired him – the way it makes us cheer, laugh, cry, and feel the entirety of the emotional spectrum. Since he can’t step in the ring, he’s chosen to go into the promotion business, where he can still contribute to the future of pro wrestling and do good in his community.

I’ve been talking to Jay about this over the last week, and his passion for this is evident from the first time you speak to him. We’re all big proponents of doing good in the world, and The Birth of the Republic is just that.

As for the show itself, Jay has assembled a roster of Kat Von Kaige, “The Hybrid Theory” Jezz Gardner, British wrestling legend James Mason, Joel Redman (formerly known as Oliver Grey from NXT), The Gangster (former UCW World Heavyweight Champion), KJ Riley, Candyfloss, Cyclone, Monsoon, “The Future” Cal Adams, Johnny Royal, and Frankie T.

Plus, the “Prince of the Republic” Championship is on the line, and well, it’s a pretty sweet belt:

Birth of the Republic will feature a battle royal to name a number one contender for the Heavyweight Championship. There will also be a number one contender match for the Prince of the Republic Championship. Both winners will get their respective title shot at PROW’s second show.

Tickets are £5 per head, sit wherever you want on a first-come, first-serve basis. A family ticket costs £15 for two adults and two children. Doors open at 4:30PM, with the show starting at 5PM.

Follow P.R.O.W. on Twitter for updates on the show as it gets closer to July, ‘like’ them on Facebook, enjoy the show, support a noble cause, and remember – always do good.
