Jinder Mahal Is the Number One Contender for the WWE Championship

It just happened on Smackdown Live. I usually stay away from posting spoilers, but damn – I could not resist. What a huge moment – easily the pinnacle of Jinder Mahal’s career. He won a Six Pack Challenge, outlasting Sami Zayn, Luke Harper, Mojo Rawley, Dolph Ziggler, and Erick Rowan in the process.

The match was awesome – some excellent selling from Zayn and Ziggler (no surprise there), a few stand-tall moments for Harper, and probably the best match Rawley has had since debuting on Smackdown Live.

Cruiserweight Classic standouts and occasional NXT competitors, The Bollywood Boyz, made their official main roster debut, aiding Mahal in victory. It looks like these three will form some sort of faction, but truth be told, I initially thought it was The Shining Stars. Oops.

Nonetheless, I’m elated for Mahal. Here’s a guy that, like so many others, was supremely talented and often misused. He toiled about the mid-card before joining the low-card comedy act, 3MB, before eventually being released.

When his return was announced as a part of last summer’s WWE Draft, it looked like he was going to be little more than depth. But, it appears that those days are behind him, at least for the time being.

Earlier in the year, Mahal had a great showing against Cesaro at Fastlane. Just last week, he put on a good match with Finn Balor, even though he did stiff him into concussion protocol. No matter how you cut it, the guy has taken his lumps and this opportunity is long overdue. It seems easy to pull the ‘anti-American’ dialogue, but oh well – I’ll withhold judgement until it all plays out.

Haters gonna hate. But, the same people who say the WWE should push new stars are all over Twitter tonight, claiming Mahal doesn’t deserve this opportunity. You people need to be honest with yourselves – you don’t really mean “the WWE should push new stars.” You mean the WWE should push your favorites.

How about we just be happy that a guy who has obviously worked his ass off to get here finally realized a dream?

Let wrestling be unpredictable sometimes and stop complaining.
