Recapping the Tennessee Titans First Round Options in the 2017 NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is tonight. FINALLY – after weeks and weeks of preparation, it’s go time. For those of you who have kept up with this column I’ve been slaving over for the last month, thank you! For those of you who are just now catching up, let’s do a recap. Click on the name to check out my full report.

Jamal Adams – Adams is the most complete safety in this draft class. The Titans happen to be in the market for a difference maker in the secondary.

Jonathan Allen – A lot of people think Allen could slide out of the top-10 altogether. Regardless of where it’s at, the Titans would seriously consider taking such an impact player.

Chidobe Awuzie – Awuzie is a real dark horse at #18, but the guy has all the tools to be a great fit on the Titans defense. Don’t be surprised if he ends up being the pick.

Derek Barnett – Barnett isn’t talked about much among Titans fans, but you can’t have enough pass rushers in a 3-4 defense. If he falls to #18, the Titans would be hard-pressed to pass on him.

Corey Davis – The former Western Michigan Bronco could be the most polished, complete receiving prospect in the draft. If he ends up as a Titan, he could immediately become the Titans #1 receiver.

Reuben Foster – A tone-setter who could lead the Titans defense. His range and ability to cover would be greatly appreciated at a position where the Titans were exposed in 2016.

Malik Hooker – Hooker is an extremely raw prospect, but his talent is undeniable. It’s unlikely the Titans take him at #5 and he won’t be around by #18. The only way the Titans land him is if they trade down into the top-10.

OJ Howard – Howard could be the most dynamic offensive weapon in this year’s draft. No objections from me if the Titans decide to take him at #5.

Marlon Humphrey – Humphrey has a lot of traits you look for in a starting NFL cornerback, but he struggles too much with the deep ball to warrant consideration at #5. If he’s still around at #18, maybe he gets a serious look.

Forrest Lamp – With the bookend tackles taken care of, the Titans could look to build depth on the offensive line. Lamp is the best guard in this draft, and could be another cornerstone of the young offensive line.

Marshon Lattimore – Lattimore is the consensus top cornerback in this draft. With only one year of solid production, he doesn’t seem like the type this Titans regime covets. If the Titans want him, they’ll have to take him at #5.

John Ross – Ross is an interesting option. He seems to have a lot of similar characteristics to Brandin Cooks, who the Titans were in on before the New England Patriots traded for him. He provides the dynamic the Titans offense is missing.

Mike Williams – Williams is considered by many to be the top wide receiver prospect in this draft. The question the Titans will have to answer is whether or not he’s worth the #5 pick. He won’t be there at #18.

I’m confident that two of these guys should maybe probably end up as Tennessee Titans tomorrow night. But, hell – you never know. As Kevin Garnett would say, “anything is possible.”
