Nashville Power Rankings: Week 3

Alright, Nashville – we’re back for Week 3 of the SoBros Network’s Nashville Power Rankings. Man, it’s been a rough week getting back to the day-to-day routine and the usual grind. But, here we are – summer is officially unofficially underway and we have the story of a city to tell. #Journalism, folks.

If you have a submission for this column, feel free to DM us on Facebook or Twitter, or shoot us an e-mail at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com because we’re still too cheap to pay for e-mail hosting.

The Week In Review

For what it’s worth, Wheeler Walker, Jr. is hitting up the Exit/In tonight (6/2/17), but the show’s sold out. Still, head out there for a hilarious (read: extremely disgustingly vulgar) time.

Story of the Week: You have to check out the barber shop passing out Preds-themed haircuts.

Blue Collar Badass of the Week (tie): Alan Jackson & Clay Travis. This week, Jackson announced that he’s going to be playing a free concert down on Broadway before Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. I’m pretty sure he’s at least 100 years old by now, damn it! That ain’t going to keep him on the sidelines. Just when our Preds needed a boost the most, one of the Original Heroes of Nashville steps up to the plate. We need to work on that “Original Heroes of Nashville” list while we’re at it.

All in all, it was business as usual for Nashville’s resident gay Muslim, Clay Travis. But, he did take a vehement stand against the Pittsburgh Penguins for being GIANT pussies. Travis offered free legal representation to “Catfish” Jake Waddell, -AND- offered up $10K of his own money to charity should Carrie Underwood land a catfish on the ice during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. He subsequently raised more money from other Nashville area celebrities. Unfortunately, no catfish hit the ice and all charges against Waddell were dropped. Still, gotta salute the man for going to bat for his city when duty calls.

Shout out: Rick Merritt. There’s been another Rusev sighting about town. Rick reached out to me on Twitter this week to let me know that he met The King of New Nashville, Rusev, over the weekend. Guess what – more good reviews. The guy is an emerging legend – I have several friends that bartend downtown who say Rusev is pure gold, and Rick’s story corroborates that. Props to Rick for reporting this news to The SoBros Network.

Honorary Nashvillian of the Week: The Stanley Cup…. I hope the results of the series so far aren’t because someone touched it while it was here…

Step Your Game Up

Pekka Rinne – I jinxed him by mentioning his stellar play in this column last week. Now, I’m telling him to step his game up in an effort to reverse this curse.

Mosquitos – damn it. We’ve got mosquitos testing positive for West Nile virus in Antioch. Where have these little shits been going to get diseases like this? I thought Silverado’s closed down a long time ago…

On To The Rankings

5. TaskRabbit – I’m all about creating opportunity for Nashvillians, and news broke this week that this awesome app is hitting the Nashville market. Courtesy of News Channel 5:

If you’re looking for extra income, a part-time job, or maybe a way to give back to your community, TaskRabbit has bounced into Nashville.

The San Francisco-based tech company is up and running in about 30 other cities and it just launched here.

You may have heard about the app. It was even featured on this season of  “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix.

The premise is simple: you choose a type of service, like handyman, house-cleaner or mover. Submit some details about the job and TaskRabbit will give you three-taskers to choose from, along with their hourly rate.

Awesome news – definitely worth checking out. I wonder if I can put my blogging skills on there? Like, “will write shitty comedy blogs” for food or something.

4. FangFingers.com – You have to check out the excellent merch at Fang Fingers if you’re a diehard Preds fan. Often hilarious, always unique, this clothing line speaks a lot to those of us with a strong sense of humor. New school Nashville at its finest.

3. The State of Tennessee – On June 1, 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state of the Union. Happy Birthday wishes have to go out to the Volunteer State, the place we call home, the place we’ve chosen to build our business in, and the place where most of our readers reside. Tennessee 4 life.

2. 21C Museum Hotel – I try to include a local establishment in every week’s Power Rankings, and this week, I’ve got quite the doozy: The 21C Museum Hotel down on 2nd Avenue. Friend of the site, R-Hog, and myself stopped by the hotel that features fine art on our lunch break yesterday. Very cool vibe, quality, and a lavish bar/lounge/restaurant/whatever rich, fancy people call “watering holes.” It’s definitely a spot to dress to the nines, but it’s a great spot for date night.

1. Jake Waddell – As if there was another choice, Catfish Jake is the number one Nashvillian this week. During Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Waddell bravely traversed enemy territory at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and threw a catfish on the ice.

Just getting the catfish there was an incredible commitment. Waddell had to run the catfish over to flatten it, smother it in Old Spice to curb the smell, wrap it up in saran wrap and stuff it in his crotch region in compression shorts just to get it there.

He’s a Smashville hero, and in this one move, has become a Nashville legend. Long live Jake Waddell.
