Kendall Wright Throwing Shade, Claims He Was the “Best Receiver on the Titans Roster” Last Year

The Tennessee Titans shocked the football world when they selected Kendall Wright with their first round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft. A team that, at the time, had a reputation for never selecting a wide receiver in the first round must have seen some electric potential to buck that trend, right? Well, yeah – Wright was a strong player.

He had a couple of really good seasons with the Titans, but he never truly broke through to become the elite number one receiver he was expected to be.

Kendall Wright blames the Titans for his drop in productivity, saying it was a lack of opportunity rather than anything to do with him.

“What motivates me the most is I probably was the best receiver on the Titans roster last year, and I was playing like 10 plays a game,” Wright said, via Kevin Fishbain of Pro Football Weekly. “That’s how it goes.”

Actually, Wright played 309 offensive snaps in 13 games, an average of 23.8 per game, but it was only 29.1 percent of the team’s offensive snaps.

Obviously, Wright is wrong. He was not the best receiver on the Titans roster last year. The former Baylor Golden Bear actually spent the better part of the 2016 season as the #3 receiver on the team.

A lot of y’all are probably thinking I’m going to come in guns-a-blazing against #13 here. But, I’m surprisingly not going to take that angle. In a sense, I understand why Wright is frustrated that his time in Tennessee ended the way that it did.

Sure, like most players in the NFL, his problems were largely self-inflicted. He had some games when he’d totally disappear. But, at the same time, he just wasn’t really a fit in this offense. You expect elite athletes to think they are the best at what they do – that’s in large part how they get to where they are. No one should be surprised by that.

Titans fans are going to call him trash, but he’s got a lot of talent. With a new home in Chicago, he may just find himself amidst a career resurgence. We’ll see.

It certainly seems like it’s going to be a better situation for him than what he had in Nashville last year.
