Robert Foster Just Took 27 Stitches to the Back, but It’s Still Going to Be His Year. Roll Tide!

A lot of Robert Foster hype has been building this offseason. For good reason, too – the Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver absolutely lit up the defense at A-Day, and with the departure of ArDarius Stewart, seems to be in the mix for more touches. Well, looks like our guy hit a minor setback…

Alabama receiver Robert Foster was injured and required stitches after an automobile accident on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide wide receiver took to social media to say he was riding his dirt bike when he got hit by a car.

Foster, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior receiver, posted pictures and a message on Facebook.

He said he received 27 stitches in his back and two in his wrist, but didn’t mention any tears or broken bones.

The accident didn’t dampen the receiver’s spirits.

“It’s my year,” Foster said in a video on Facebook. “I’m not giving up on nothing.”

In Alabama’s A-Day Game, Foster caught two passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.

One of the Tide’s fastest players, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Foster ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds during Alabama’s spring testing last year.

Foster was emerging as the Tide’s top wide receiver in 2015, catching 10 passes and two touchdowns in the first two-and-a-half games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

Yikes – what a gnarly looking injury. And, the damage he did to that person’s windshield? Uncanny. This tough son of a gun is up posting to Facebook after this, too!?!? 100% chance I would still be laying in the middle of the road if this happened to me.

The damage was extensive enough to require 29 total stitches, but didn’t break any bone in his body. Foster is pretty fortunate, but I love the confidence. He knew what most Tide fans were probably thinking…”Oh, he’s okay…good…well…wait…can he play?” He put all of our minds at ease.

Still, this is bad for Alabama for a couple of reasons.

First, you hate to see a kid get hurt…plain and simple. Foster is primed for a big season, too. He was definitely going to see an expanded role in the offense, and if the Spring game was any indication, he was set to make the most of it. It looks like the injuries aren’t going to derail him at all, but it’s still scary to think about. I wonder what Nick Saban thinks about his players driving around shirtless on dirt bikes in the offseason?

Second, this almost seems inhuman. I imagine it will only fuel the conspiracy theory that Alabama builds its players on an assembly line, throws them in a uniform, and trots them out on the field.

People are going to start asking questions. “Coach Saban – how do you answer for the fact that Foster was hit by a car and got up unscathed?? Are you controlling robots on the field?”

It’s inevitable.

All kidding aside, happy to see Foster isn’t seriously hurt here. We wish him nothing but the best – here’s to hoping for that breakout season! Roll Tide.
