Can’t Blame Kids for Thinking Brent Burns Was a Pirate at Disney World

Well, it’s officially the offseason now that we’re writing about players’ escapades on family vacations. But, with the actual hockey talk dwindling down after the Stanley Cup Final, new jersey release, Expansion Draft, and the NHL Draft, this is what we have as far as news goes. And, I promise, for the entirety of this blog’s life, to deliver you the hardest-hitting, most important news stories of all time of ever.

Brent Burns is a certified badass – perhaps the best defenseman in the entire NHL. At least, he has the 2016-17 Norris Trophy to prove it. The man is just flat out fun to watch, and looks like a walking adventure.

Just look at this photo and tell me it doesn’t SCREAM “family fun.”

Burns signed autographs after being erroneously figured for a pirate while at Disney World in May.

“I actually signed a couple autographs in kids books because they thought I was a pirate — and I signed ’em,” Burns said Tuesday from Las Vegas, where the NHL Awards are being held. “We always try to dress up and have a good time there, so I can’t blame the kids for thinking that.”

Yes, the Norris Trophy nominee parlayed his boisterous beard into buccaneer fame. (You can watch Burns’ facial grow over the years here.)

I’m not going to lie, I feel really stupid. When I first started watching San Jose Sharks games, I thought, “who let this pirate out on the ice?” Totally didn’t know he was actually supposed to be there – it took me far too long to realize that THAT GUY is actually Burns. So, I damn sure can’t criticize kids for thinking one of the best defensemen in the NHL is a pirate in a setting where pirates run rampant.

Also, shout out to Disney World – apparently, now that’s where all athletes go regardless of whether they win a championship or get bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers.
