ESPN Analyst Says He Used to Follow the Nashville Predators When They Were the Atlanta Thrashers…Wait, What?!?!

Boy, this is bad. There’s no way to unite the hockey world faster than bringing up ESPN’s coverage of the NHL. It’s atrocious, and this could pretty well sum it up in a single video (except Barry Melrose – we’re going to leave him out of this because I don’t want to hate anyone because they’re beautiful).

LZ Granderson going on LIVE TELEVISION and claiming that he followed the Predators when they were the Atlanta Thrashers. This may be breaking news to some, apparently, but the Preds never played as the Thrashers. In fact, the Preds played against the Thrashers (as seen in the featured image), because both teams existed in the NHL at the same time.

Never mind that he completely dismisses the fact the Preds aren’t losing any of their best players. Sure, they lost James Neal, but they gained Nick Bonino. I mean, this is a good hockey team. You don’t win the Western Conference unless you earn it. They swept the Chicago Blackhawks. They endured bruising battles with the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. To completely blow this off like, “oh, they stumbled into this championship” is lazy and faulty.

So, yes – LZ Granderson, renowned hockey expert who thinks the Preds used to be the Atlanta Thrashers, thinks the Preds made it to the Stanley Cup Final because of sheer luck. They’re actually lightyears away from being Stanley Cup contenders.

Also, there are four freaking people on set. How did everyone just unanimously accept this nonsense without correcting him? No one heard that and thought, “that doesn’t sound right.” They just went with it.

Stuff like this makes me think I’m being too hard on Nashville sports fans when I criticize them for being overly sensitive about a perceived “small market bias.” This one’s hard to defend – just a dude not knowing what the hell he’s talking about.

Maybe SportsNation should just leave the NHL out of the rotation.
