Asuka Is Coming to Monday Night Raw, so What Do They Do With Her?

For the better part of two years now, Asuka has been the most dominant wrestler under the WWE umbrella. We’re talking about a nearly 500-day long championship run and almost two full years’ worth of being undefeated.

Anyway, forgive me, I could look up exact numbers, but let’s face it – research isn’t exactly our strong suit here at the SoBros Network.

Moving along, it was revealed on last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw that “The Empress of Tomorrow” would be joining the red brand soon.

Remember the draft last year? It’s been reported that Triple H went to Vince McMahon and said, “take anybody but Asuka. You cannot take her from NXT. She’s far too valuable.” Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. I wasn’t in the room for fuck’s sake. But, if it is true, I can imagine both of ’em being like, “ah, shit – she’s injured. We can’t play around with this anymore. We need to get that solid main roster run out of Asuka STAT.” Obviously, the injury isn’t too severe, or else they wouldn’t be pushing her return so soon.

Nonetheless, holy shit. Goosebumps. I mean, I am absolutely geeking out of my mind. In just a few seconds, they made Asuka look like a dangerous, intimidating badass. For good reason, she’s one of NXT’s greatest superstars.

I know there’s a bit of a philosophical debate on how you bring up Asuka. On one side, the side I tend to align with, you have a bit of mythos surrounding her that you can transfer to the main roster if she comes up undefeated. She has instant credibility as one of the greatest women’s wrestlers of the last two years. No one has been able to beat her.

On the other side, wrestling is an industry rich in tradition. One of those traditions is that you ‘do the honors’ when you leave. A lot of people are saying Asuka’s streak could’ve made a star had they had her drop the title to Ember Moon or the winner of the Mae Young Classic. I don’t necessarily disagree, but I think Asuka is a special case. Not every wrestler ends up with a 2-year undefeated streak. I think you save that for a larger moment.

Also, you have to ask – where does she fit in with the rest of the Raw roster? Does she immediately come in and contend for the title? Or, do you build her up. Personally, I’d have Nia Jax leave No Mercy with the strap, give her a dominant run to Wrestlemania and then have Asuka beat her for the title then. But, that’s just me being a total mark.

We’ll see where it all goes, but for now, I’m saying Asuka could be a huge addition to Raw.
