Akon Clearly Understands Women & David Guetta is 48?

Let’s rewind to 2009 – a fresh-out-of-college SoBro Stoney, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, working his retail job, still living at home, with no plan of action in place scrounges up the money to purchase a CD (on the tail end of the decline of CD purchases, mind you). That CD is none other than David Guetta’s One Love.

Why? Because of the mysteriously hypnotic dance tune, “Sexy Bitch.”

Seriously – I love a good dance tune, and this handsome Frenchman (and WTF – he’s 48 years old?!?!) sure can churn ‘em out.

Still, even when I was inconceivably immature (totally cleaned up my act since, thanks), I never understood how the song could not be seen as demeaning to women. Maybe, just maybe, beautiful women could feel a tad objectified and insulted by being called ‘sexy bitches.’

What’s more – the line goes “I’m trying to find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful…” before following that up with, “Damn! You’s a sexy bitch, a sexy bitch,” rinse and repeat.

If calling a woman a sexy bitch is not disrespectful, I would hate to hear what Akon does consider disrespectful.

On the other hand, you know what – I’ve been called a sexy bitch on many occasions in my life, and not once have I ever felt anything less than glowing pride. It actually did make me feel like a valued member of society!

Since those days of being broke and eating ramen noodles and tuna every day and having no insurance of my own, the mystery of this song’s origins and contradictory nature has haunted me.

Finally, Guetta himself has come out and shed some light on what went into writing this song.

Guetta sat down with The Huffington Post’s Carly Ledbetter to discuss a lot of serious music stuff which has no place here on the SoBros Network, despite being a really good read.

Specifically, he voiced the reservations he had back when he and Akon wrote this hit:

“We were in the studio, and all my songs before this one were always about, like, ‘We’re all brothers and sisters,’ and about love and all that,” Guetta told The Huffington Post. “And then we had this song, and I was like, ‘Wow, it’s big! But aren’t you afraid of the reaction it could have?'”

Sounds like the natural instinct of a true gentleman – “hey, man – this is catchy as all get out, and I, for one, can’t stop tapping my toes….buuuuut….are we 100% certain calling women sexy bitches is going to go over well in 2009???”

That’s not a direct quote, of course, just thinking, as well as I know Guetta (from reading Ms. Ledbetter’s article and listening to One Love on repeat), he’d probably say something along those lines….in French presumably. Maybe. Anyway.

Guetta was reassured by Akon, in all his infinite wisdom, that this would be widely accepted:

“[Akon] was like, ‘Listen, David, I think you don’t understand women! Just watch what’s gonna happen.'”

One would naturally assume that Akon probably said this in the nude, wearing only some sort of burgundy plush bathrobe (listen – I’m trying to be the best journalist I can be and really paint a picture for you guys).

Now, at first I rolled my eyes at this. You’re telling me Akon understands women? Akon is a credible source on feminine perspective in our society? No. That’s just indisputable bullshit.

“He was so right, because you know what happened? When I released this record and I was performing, girls started sending me bras and stuff, and it was like, ‘What? This is crazy!'” the artist said. “I was expecting girls to get mad at me and it completely created the opposite reaction.”

Wow – this is the ultimate paradigm shift. I have to stop what I’m doing and totally rethink my stance on this. Akon is a genius! I’m sure the women sending Guetta ‘bras and stuff’ are highly reputable women of character who accurately represent the views of being a lady in current society.

See you guys later – I’m off to write the next big hit, “Ratchet slut.” Women are going to be so empowered!
