This Rob Gronkowski-Earl Thomas Bromance Is Respectably Heart Warming

The NFL has been known to be a circus at times. You have Richard Sherman stuffing Michael Crabtree in a bodybag. Deflategate. Colin Kaepernick. Johnny Manziel. Odell Beckham Jr.’s weird affair with a kicking net. That’s just recent seasons, too! I can keep going back if you want me to – Albert Haynesworth once stomped on a man’s hand! People smokin’ weed, beating their wives, and still people are only worried about Super Bowls. Bottom line – it’s not like the NFL is always the bedrock for wholesome exchanges.

But, every now and then, a story comes along that just melts your heart…

Via Eric Edholm at Shutdown Corner“Call us suckers, but we love a good Twitter bromance. Oh, sure, it’s fun when opposing players spar on there, too; we’re not above liking that. But there’s something about two tremendous competitors going at on the field and then showing their mutual respect to the world.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski went over the middle Sunday night, as he so often does in games, to catch what would have been at least a 20-yard pass from Tom Brady with the Patriots down 12-7 in the second quarter. The throw was perfect, but the coverage was excellent — and Seattle Seahawks safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas made sure the pass would not be caught.

On the play, Gronk reportedly suffered a punctured lung that could keep him out a week or so (although that report has since been disputed). Still, it was a good, clean hit by Thomas and a completely legal play.

Thomas went on Twitter to profess his respect for Gronkowski, who continued to play through the injury.

And Gronk came right back with his own dose of love.

Wow – just flat out warms the heart – and right here at the holidays no less. If you aren’t watching this with the biggest, goofiest grin on your face, you have no soul. There’s just nothing like two studs complimenting each other in a vicious sport after an atypically violent hit.

Thomas just rattles Gronk’s brain, and all he wants to do his tell him how much he respects him. And, Gronk? Gronk just wants to express his feelings. This makes me one happy guy – two of my personal favorites.

Usually, I’m all about that #content. I love seeing Sherman explode and Bud Adams throwing double birds at the entire city of Buffalo. That’s great for us writers. But, I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t have a soft spot for this kind of thing.

If you aren’t on the Gronk train by now, you never will be, and quite frankly, you’re just a hater. The guy is solid gold – just fun as a barrel of monkeys with a huge heart. And, Thomas? He may be somewhat quiet on the field, but he’s definitely the ‘speak softly and carry a big stick’ type. You basically have no soul if you aren’t all in on this.

I wish these two nothing but the best, and will be supporting the budding bromance all along the way. I can’t wait to see how they spend Valentine’s Day.
