Podcast: Best Wrestlemania Ever – Episode 5

It’s down to the Final Four as the SoBros attempt to narrow the field even further after grueling discussions throughout the Elite Eight. Only four shows remain, and the gang discusses:

Wrestlemania 22 vs. Wrestlemania 20
Wrestlemania XIX vs. Wrestlemania 31

I think we’re all in agreement that Wrestlemania 31 made it this far out of luck of the draw. That being said, the crew isn’t here to discredit what 2015’s show brought to the table. It’s often said that Wrestlemania 31 ran like an episode of NXT – focused on wrestling with the extracurricular noise at a minimum. It had an unforgettable main event, a solid mid-card, and a slew of ‘Wrestlemania moments.’ Think of Seth Rollins cashing in Money in the Bank, Triple H-Sting, Orton countering the Curb Stomp into the RKO, The Rock & Ronda Rousey, Daniel Bryan starting the show with an Intercontinental Championship win. It’s there.

That was a good Wrestlemania – but, does it pack enough of a punch to knock out what many consider the greatest Wrestlemania of all time? A show that included Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar, Stone Cold Steve Austin’s final match against The Rock, the ’20 Years in the Making’ Street Fight between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon, and a dream match between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels.

Throw in one of the best under-cards in Wrestlemania history, and 2003’s installment is going to be tough to beat.

On the other end of the bracket, our fellas have to decide between the unexpected excitement of Wrestlemania 22 and the pedigree of a stacked Wrestlemania XX. On one hand, Wrestlemania 22 feels much easier to consume – enjoyable matches from Edge vs. Mick Foley all the way through to the show’s Triple H vs. John Cena end. On the other, can it really measure up Madison Square Garden, John Cena’s first major championship win, The Rock n’ Sock Connection battling Evolution, Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle, and the return of the Dead Man?

Well, that’s for us to talk about and you to listen to…
