I’m Not Sure How I Feel About This Theory That Bran Stark Is the Night King

I’m so emotional. We have just one more episode  Season seven has been full of revelations, and each episode has been an emotional rollercoaster. If you’re anything like me, part of the enjoyment of this show is combing through all of the vast mythology, searching for clues….or hanging out on the Reddit threads. One of the most enigmatic characters on Game of Thrones is the Night King – the leader of the White Walkers.

Well, I saw this theory about a year ago, and didn’t give it much credence. But, the more I think about it, and the more GoT we see, the more plausible it seems. Someone out there has made a pretty convincing case that Bran Stark is the Night King.

The theory harks back to when Three Eyed-Raven Bran travels back in time and wargs himself into the man who later becomes the Night King, aiming to prevent the Children of the Forest from ever creating those pesky White Walkers.

I don’t know, guys. Sometimes, it’s like we obsess over these fan theories and can’t tell what’s real anymore. Does it make sense that Bran would travel back in time and attempt to stop the creation of the Night King? Yes. Has the Night King been written intentionally vague enough to pull this off? Absolutely.

The thing that has me finally lending an ear to this theory is the fact that I have no idea where else Bran fits into the ending of this whole saga. Does he eventually just ride off happily into the sunset? I don’t know. So, it makes sense that Bran could be the Night King. It fits!

Here’s another interesting tidbit I’ve pulled from the bowels of the Internet: the dagger used in the attempt on Bran’s life consists of Valyrian steel. Well, what if somehow, whoever attempted to kill Bran all the way back in season one knew Bran was the Night King? So far, we know of two things that can kill White Walkers: obsidian (dragonglass) and Valyrian steel. *gasp*

I’m just putting this all out there for you guys. But, the rabbit hole is there if you’re willing to go down it.
