Memphis Is Putting Pressure on Nashville as Tennessee’s ‘It City’ Now That They Have Vending Machines for Weaves

I’m not sure why there’s this perceived rivalry between Nashville and Memphis. But, if you ask almost any old timer around Nashville – the people who have been here all their lives and are getting on up there in age – they’ll tell you about a vitriolic hate for Memphis. Likewise, when “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick and I made our last excursion down to Memphis in 2009, we got some contentious looks when we mentioned we were from Nashville. Not sure what caused this rivalry. I’m actually so clueless that I won’t even venture a guess….but, for those who are still entrenched in this rivalry, Memphis has pulled ahead with vending machines for weaves. That’s right. If you’re keeping score, Memphis has a vending machine that dispenses a weave…thats a win…

According to a report by WMC news, Memphis now has its very own vending machine for weaves. The Diamond Dynasty weave machine offers a variety of hair options ranging in price from  $55-80.

According to the WMC report the vending machine will be a convenience for people who may need to change their look on the go. Like spies, I guess.

The obvious question: What kind of impact will easy access to hair have on Memphis’ tribble-likeinfestation of tumbleweaves?

Man, that’s a game changer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been around someone who was in desperate need of a weave and couldn’t satisfy that need because of a lack of immediate resources. Since weaves are one of those things that you need immediate resources available for, this is a huge unlock for society.

This is like seeing all the bullshit “innovation” businesses talk about in practice instead of being used solely as a buzzword. It’s amazing. I’d like to see all the brilliant young minds in Silicon Valley come up with something like this.

I am concerned about the uptick in tumbleweaves. That’s something that very rarely elicits a positive reaction when you see along the side of the road. One, it’s littering. Two, I always feel bad that some person is now out there roaming the world without their weave. But, no great innovation comes without some sort of unintended consequence. We’re just going to have to put up with the tumbleweaves to get the benefit of this great technology.

Way to go, Memphis. You’ve really showed us this time….even if this is a rivalry that most of the young people in Nashville do not understand or even acknowledge.
