Tank the 401k: ‘Dodged the Bullet’ Edition

Welcome all degenerate gamblers back into my weekly American football column, Tank the 401k. Here, I will divulge all my professional eagle-eyed opinions on the upcoming week. Call your bookie and empty those retirement accounts!

Last week could have been disastrous. I was incredibly close to 1-4, but I managed to eek out a 3-2 week thanks to Green Bay coming back and covering against the lowly Browns, and the Titans-Cardinals game going exactly as I said it would.

But, what did we learn? The Jags have proven it’s a three-horse race in the AFC. The Patriots can lose. And, maybe just maybe, I jumped on board the Vikings bandwagon a little too hard.

Anyway, now we’re getting into bowl season. You never know what’s going to happen, who’s going to show up and actually care about the games, or who even has a head coach left. It’s hard work dodgin’ bullets, and I imagine I still have plenty comin’ at me before this season ends. So, let’s see what we can come up with this week.

BIG NATURAL’S TANK THE 401K PICKS

NFL: Los Angeles Rams @ Seattle, OVER 48 – Are you kidding? Have you seen these two teams playing lately? This one could be another of those 35-30 type of games. I’m more than happy to take the over here.

NCAAF: Arkansas State -3.5 vs. Middle Tennessee State – I love my Blue Raiders…I really do. ‘Harvard of the South’ as we call it around SoBros HQ…well, Nature Boy and I anyway. That’s where I graduated from that made me so smart. But, they aren’t winning this game, this renewed rivalry, against a pretty underrated Arkansas State team. I don’t even think it’s close.

NFL: Tennessee +2 @ San Francisco – Honestly, a little surprised to see the Niners are favored here, but I’ve said all season long that they’re better than people were giving them credit for, and that that 8-4 start for the Titans was a bit of a mirage. Still, I expect the Titans to get the ground game, settle things down, and grind out the W.

NCAAF: Boise State +7.5 vs. Oregon – Oregon just lost its coach, and the Broncos defense is vastly underrated with that 7.5-point spread. I think this one is going to be a close one, and not the offensive shootout we’d typically expect between these two teams.

NFL: Dallas -3 @ Oakland – The Raiders have their issues, sure, but for me, this pick is about the Cowboys. They’ve strung together two really impressive wins over the last couple of weeks, and it looks like they’ve really found their groove on offense. I like ’em even on the road in this spot.

Last Week: (3-2)
On the Season: (44-34-3) – 56%
