Nashville, Pay Attention to The Making Towns Classic

We announced last November that we would be sponsoring the 2018 Making Towns Classic. The 16-woman tournament is coming to Nashville on Saturday, May 12th, and we’re ecstatic to have our name attached to it in any way. Obviously, we want to push this thing to be as big as it possibly can be. With Nashville being the entertainment mecca that it is, it’s only fitting for the city to have its own grand wrestling event.

The dust is still settling from Sunday’s Southern Underground Pro show, and hot DAMN! What a show it was. I got my first look at one of the MTC competitors, Allie Kat, and came away impressed by what a natural entertainer she is. The crowd was HOT for her match with “Slutty Kat” Josh Bishop, and the two delivered an electric performance that had people smiling, laughing, and cheering.

Angelus Layne, another entrant in the MTC, wrestled Kevin Ku in a Last Person Standing match. I’m fairly positive that I have a concussion just from watching the match. But, that’s been Layne’s style everywhere I’ve seen her….”intense” to say the least. She was good enough to have a crowd chanting “break her neck” mere moments after they were chanting “love is love.”

That’s just two of the sixteen women who will be competing in May.

There’s something exhilarating about having good independent wrestling back in the Music City. And, to see such strong women taking center stage is pretty amazing as well. This place was once a haven for the graps, and now, there seems to be a strong contingent of people who are working to bring us back to the promised land. More on that in my first review of S.U.P. from back in August.

But, my point is that you can’t help but look at this scene and see that something special is brewing.

You can see how important this is to the brain trust that has put this show together and our fellow sponsors. That’s going to translate well on May 12th when our city becomes the women’s wrestling capital of the country. This scene that so many have worked hard to create is incredibly fun to be apart of, even if we really aren’t more than spectators. The Nashville Scene is writing about it – I dare say wrestling is cool again. And, it’s pretty damn cool to witness.

The fact that it’s all going down in the Sports Arena at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds makes it even more enticing. That’s hallowed ground, folks. I can remember my parents telling me stories about watching Jackie Fargo and Tojo Yamamoto down at the arena way back in the day. It’s where TNA got its start, and I can remember seeing A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe wrestling in that building.

Now, there’s a new generation ready to step into the storied venue and etch their names in Nashville history.

People – it’s going to be a party (literally – we’ve already offered up our services as tour guides for anybody who wants to tear Nashville apart with us after the show). I mean, any time you get the SoBros Network involved, you know there’s going to be a party. But, this…this….is an event worth celebrating. You can get your tickets by DM-ing the living legend himself, Papa Hales, on Twitter.
