Forgotten Treasures of Americana: 3D Doritos

In our never ending quest to provide all of our readers with relatable, ‘slice of life’ style content, we here at the SoBros Network feel the time to weigh in on social commentary has officially come. It’s once again time for me, Big Natural, to open up the leather-bound parchment pages of the annals of history. Put on your plush robe, light your pipe, start a fire, and get ready for deep contemplation. This is the as-often-as-I-remember-to-write-it column: Forgotten Treasures of Americana.

Folks, those of us who are 90s kids love to reminisce about the good ol’ days of SNICK and boy bands. When conversing about our favorite snacks, Surge and Dunkaroos get all of the credit. But, today – we’re here to review a snack that is probably the most underrated snack of the 90s: 3D Doritos.

Jalapeno cheddar, zesty ranch, nacho cheese – any of the three options we had was an explosion of flavor in your mouth. They’ve been described (by Wikipedia) as “Doritos meets Bugles,” and boy – that could not be more accurate. All the spicy savory goodness of a Dorito with the crunchy substantial texture of a Bugle. I can still remember those Summer days at the Wave Pool cracking open a bin of these bad boys and just watching the babes go by.

And, unlike most bags of chips, you didn’t have to reach into a noisy bag to get to the good stuff. No, you just unscrewed the container, filled the top with 3D Doritos, and then tossed that bitch back. No messy hands, no crumbs everywhere, no rustling of a plastic bag – it was glorious.

The history books might not remember 3D Doritos. But, we always will, and that’s what we’re here for. To document these lost treasures. 3D Doritos were way ahead of their time, and today – we pay salute to them.
