Shout Out to This Badass Badger for Turning up in a 500-year-old Castle

Aren’t badgers kind of majestic? They’re just these tough old curmudgeon type critters that are known for being ornery and relentless. I like to think that we’re like badgers around here. We’re the badgers of Nashville sports/lifestyle talk. Anyway, one badass badger took it upon himself to hole up in a 500-year-old castle and turn up in that bitch.

Courtesy of the good ol’ BBC:

Staff at Craignethan Castle, near Lesmahagow, tweeted last week that a “very angry badger” was in the cellar tunnel of the property.

Working with animal welfare experts, staff tried to coax the animal from the tunnel with food.

The tunnel was closed on Thursday for the badger and the public’s safety.

Historic Environment Scotland, which manages the site, said the tunnel would remain closed until the completion of repairs to damage caused by the badger to some masonry.

The rest of the castle is open to the public.

The badger left the tunnel at some point on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday morning.

First of all, I love that the BBC wrote this out like a breaking news, as it develops, kind of post. It reads like a live blog detailing a car chase or manhunt or something.

Second of all, I love that so much havoc was wreaked by a badger that they had to shut down operations for a little bit. Like, no one would even go into this place because it was just pure destruction.

“The tunnel was closed on Thursday for the badger and the public’s safety” – they knew. The people of Scotland knew better than to fuck with a badger while he’s turning up.

Then again, I guess we don’t know for sure that the chaos was caused by partying. The badger may have been trying to perform renovations and just not known masonry very well.

We may never know.
