2018 Tennessee Titans Draft Grades

The 2018 NFL Draft has come and gone. It was rather eventful for the Tennessee Titans, even if they did only have four selections. Let’s hit our 2018 Titans draft grades.

2018 Tennessee Titans Draft Grades

Round 1: Alabama ILB Rashaan Evans – I loved the Evans pick. It filled what was, in my opinion, the biggest need on the team. Evans is a guy who can cover tight ends, has sideline-to-sideline range, and plays aggressive. He’ll be used in blitz packages to get after opposing quarterbacks, too. The Titans needed a jack of all trades at ILB and they got one.

Grade: A+

Round 2: Boston College OLB Harold Landry – I loved the Landry pick as well. He was the best pure 3-4 edge rusher in this class, which filled the only other major need for the team. This was a guy many thought wouldn’t last to the Titans’ first pick at #25. They had to trade up to get both Landry and Evans, but well worth it to fill your two biggest needs with guys who can be immediate impact players.

Grade: A+

Round 5: Arizona CB Dane Cruikshank – The Titans needed some safety depth, and they spent time with Cruikshank leading up to the draft, so this isn’t necessarily a surprising move. But, I am surprised that they were willing to trade up for a third time to get their guy. Still – good player that could serve as an eventual heir to Johnathan Cyprien.

Grade: B

Round 6: Washington State QB Luke Falk – This is the pick that raised eyebrows across Nashville. I have no issue with them coming away from this draft with a quarterback. I would’ve put money on Kyle Allen signing as an UDFA, but at 199th overall, the Titans likely saw Falk as too good a value to pass up. It was the Tom Brady pick, so hopefully they’ve already begun molding Falk’s Hall of Fame ring….

Grade: B-

Overall – I’ve seen a few national media pundits slamming the Titans for giving up virtually all of their draft capital to get three picks. Mel Kiper, Jr. specifically mentioned the tight end position, STILL unwilling to back off that notion. Bruh, the Titans are fine with Delanie Walker, Jonnu Smith, Phillip Supernaw, and Luke Stocker. Plus, they’ve added Ethan Wolfe as an UDFA. I think they’re happy there.

But, overall I like what the team did in the draft. They didn’t add a speed guy at wide receiver, something I would’ve liked to see them do, but I’ve been high on the potential of the current receiving corps all offseason, so it’s not that big of a deal. I thought they’d add some guard depth, but addressing that in free agency set them up nicely for 2018. It may be something they hit next year.

This team could have phoned it in after picking Landry, and I would’ve been happy.

The team has also added several UDFAs, including Iowa RB Akrum Wadley, a guy a lot of folks expected to be drafted.

Grade: B+
