Steve Spurrier Is Opening a Restaurant and It’s Gonna Be Wild As Hell

Yes – you read that correctly. Steve Spurrier is opening a restaurant. It is the talk of the college football world this week.

See? I’m not joking. This is real life. Courtesy of The Gainesville Sun:

The Gator great is teaming up with Celebration Pointe to build a restaurant — Spurrier’s restaurant and bar — at the growing development in a lot just across the street from the movie theater.

The restaurant will be 8,400 square feet and have a 1,500-square-foot sports memorabilia exhibit that will feature many of Spurrier’s trophies and awards, including his 1966 Heisman Trophy, which has been tucked away in a closet at his Crescent Beach home.

So, I couldn’t for the life of me find the press conference footage that I wanted to share here. But, 3HL here in Nashville played a clip yesterday in which Spurrier described his favorite food. Seafood, Mexican, and Chinese food.

My God, I hope that’s what this restaurant is. I mean, he’s already said that it’s going to be ‘classic American fare,’ which is a nice way of saying it’s going to be a sports bar. But, I love the idea of Spurrier opening a seafood/Mexican/Chinese restaurant so much, that I don’t want to acknowledge the classic American fare part. I’m going to keep rooting that Steve Spurrier opens a fucking seafood/Chinese/Mexican restaurant somewhere in Florida.

I also love that he’s bringing the damn Heisman to the bar. His family’s like, “dude, you gotta do something with this shit.” Guess the logical response is to open a restaurant! Oh, to be rich – what do I do with all of my junk I don’t have a place for? I pile that shit in the closet. Famous people can open restaurants instead of paying for a storage booth.

I love it, and I won’t stop fantasizing about eating a plate of coconut shrimp, orange chicken, and enchiladas while staring at the Heisman Trophy.

But, if you’re asking for my personal opinion on the matter, my official statement is that I will only attend Spurrier’s if shirtless Steve Spurrier is attending. Shirtless Steve Spurrier is a big mood unlike any other.
