My favorite time of year is upon us – it’s that narrow stretch of time when all of the summer time activities have slowed down, school is starting back up, and we’ve got fall and football on the horizon. It’s still hot as shit outside, but you can almost feel the cool crisp autumn breeze setting in if you’re out late at night. Nothing signifies the arrival of this season quite like the sound of a boxing glove smacking a football. Wut? That’s right, folks – they’ve got the boxing gloves out at Titans practice, so it’s official. Football season is here.

There’s simply not a more football guy move on the planet than putting on a pair of boxing gloves and going to battle.
This feels like it’s just a good way to train for anything. Having someone repeatedly hit you with a boxing glove has to heighten your sense of awareness. No matter what the task is, if you can execute it WHILE being repeatedly hit by a guy with a pair of boxing gloves on his hands, you’ve GOT to be pretty damn good at it. So, it’s a firm measure of success.

But, like I said, this isn’t about the Titans getting better or anything. I hope no one came here for actual journalism today. For me, it’s just a barometer of how close we are to getting back to meaningful football. It’s actually the second to last box to check off on the list.
It’s the NFL Draft, minicamp, training camp, boxing gloves, preseason, then we’re back to football. So, yeah – I was super pumped to see the legend, the king, the god, Jim Wyatt tweet that clip out.
Also, after seeing Turron Davenport’s tweet, I think we need more boxing gloves on poles. I want one of those things to just throw around for no good reason.
