Welcome to NFL DFS advice for the Titans at Browns matchup during Week 1 of the 2019 season. Every week, Joshua Huffman will preview some of the main participants from the Tennessee Titans games. These guides will include player pricing, injuries, potential mismatches, and anything else players should consider when choosing players from Tennessee and/or their opponents.

Titans at Browns: Key Players & Pricing

  • Derrick Henry ($5900)
  • Marcus Mariota ($5200)
  • Corey Davis ($4900)
  • Dion Lewis ($4700)
  • Adam Humphries ($4000)
  • Delanie Walker ($3500)
  • Titans Defense ($2600)
  • Odell Beckham Jr. ($8100)
  • Baker Mayfield ($6400)
  • Nick Chubb ($6400)
  • Jarvis Landry ($5600)
  • David Njoku ($3700)
  • Browns Defense ($3400)

Titans at Browns: Injury Report

  • Titans OT Taylor Lewan begins the season on suspension. OT Jack Conklin has missed practices but expects to play. Even if Conklin plays, the Titans could have difficulty protecting a quarterback who has been sacked 130 times through four regular seasons. The combination of the Browns secondary and a Myles Garrett pass rush almost certainly forces Tennessee to play their traditional conservative approach with a power running game and focus on attacking the interior of Cleveland’s pass defense.
  • Browns RB Kareem Hunt begins the season on suspension. Former RB Duke Johnson Jr. was traded to the Houston Texans. Without an established No. 2 RB, this nearly guarantees high usage for RB Nick Chubb. Expect a hefty workload in a lower scoring game against two quality secondaries that will force one another to use their ground games.

Titans at Browns: Lines (As of Sep. 5)

  • Browns (-5.5)
  • Over/Under 45.5

Titans at Browns: NFL DFS Advice

  • Expect this game to play UNDER 45.5. The 2018 Titans featured the No. 3 scoring defense. While the Browns feature loads of hype that is evidenced in their player pricing, Tennessee plays a grinding style that wears on its opponents. They limit big plays. They eat clock with a dink-and-dunk offense and power running game. This is a 16-13, 20-17ish game that isn’t the sexiest for DFS purposes.
  • My favorite overall play is Titans TE Delanie Walker. At $3500, Walker faces a strong matchup against a Browns defense who, in 2018, struggled against opposing tight ends. Browns CB Denzel Ward almost certainly shutdowns whoever he covers outside. Even if Ward doesn’t shadow Titans WR Corey Davis when Davis moves around the formation, the Browns have a strong secondary and a complementary pass rush that will force Tennessee to play conservatively. That means attack the interior with tight ends. Typically, Walker is priced in the $4000 to $5000 range. He’s one of my favorite TE plays on the entire slate. It’s just a matter of whether he can find the end zone. I’d give that a 50/50 shot.
  • Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. faces a decent matchup against inconsistent outside CBs Adoree’ Jackson and Malcolm Butler. While quality slot CB Logan Ryan handles Jarvis Landry, Beckham should get plenty of exposure. At $8100, it’s just a matter of getting enough big plays to cover that price tag. There’s risk aplenty when one considers the potential lower scoring style game and uncertainty over Jackson’s progression as a consistent shutdown cornerback.

I’d recommend limiting exposure here. A favorable play near this price range is Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans ($7900). At $200 cheaper, Evans projects to play in a higher scoring contest at home against a weak San Francisco 49ers secondary. 49ers CB Richard Sherman rarely shadows opposing wide receivers. Evans could see most of his coverage against far weaker options. With Peyton Barber remaining as Buccaneers RB, expect more of the same with Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston favoring a high frequency passing attack that creates more opportunities for his WRs. Evans has a high floor and higher ceiling.
  • Neither defense strikes me as anything special. The Browns have a chance for multiple sacks and to keep Tennessee’s scoring below 14 points. There just isn’t enough interceptions potential for a $3400 price tag. Almost no chance of a pick-6. If you’re paying up for defense, I’d recommend spending $200 more on a Philadelphia Eagles unit whose front seven should pressure Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum into mistakes.
  • Many Titans fans have raved about a potential breakout season for WR Corey Davis. That breakout won’t happen here. While Tennessee could move him around the formation to avoid Browns CB Denzel Ward, he won’t get enough opportunities to have enough of a ceiling to merit that price tag. I’d estimate his ceiling around five catches for 60ish yards and a touchdown. Maybe use him sparingly but that’s it.
  • Consider RBs Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb. Both should earn high usage in a game that will likely see both offenses focusing on clock management. Both should receive goal-line opportunities. Henry’s ceiling is limited because RB Dion Lewis handles the passing-game involvement. With Hunt suspended, Chubbs offers more PPR value, hence a higher ceiling. In this price range, I’d favor Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette ($6100), Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook ($6000), Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson ($5800) or Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson ($5700).
