Lamar Jackson, Have Yourself A DAY

You definitely don’t want to overreact to a Week 1 performance against a Miami Dolphins team that figures to be one of the worst in the NFL, but HO LY SHIT, that’s exactly what I’m going to do because Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson just went out there and BALLED OUT.

I thought people were sleeping on the Ravens before the season started. Thought Jackson progressed nicely as a passer in the preseason. Thought they made some nice moves, putting talent around him, in the offseason. Plus, people are W A Y too high on the Pittsburgh Steelers. I might have raised a few eyebrows when I predicted the Ravens to go to the AFC Championship, but folks – I’m seeing that vision on offense after today.

Like I said, the Dolphins are bad. BAAAAAAD. It’s fair to ask, “are the Ravens really this good? Or, the ‘Fins just that bad?”

But, I’d say this – posting 59 points in the NFL is hard regardless of who the opponent is. It’s more of the progress of Jackson as a passer that has me encouraged after watching that game. It’s seeing the investments in Mark Ingram and Marquise Brown paying immediate dividends. We saw both of these things manifest in a real game that actually counted today. People seem to lose sight of the fact that this was a playoff team a year ago.

Jackson finished the game 17/20 for 324 yards and five passing touchdowns.

Good. For. Lamar. Jackson. You know that dude’s waving at the haters today.

I hate the fuckin’ Ravens (Titan up!), but let’s give credit where it’s due, this looked like a well-oiled machine today. If the Ravens keep playing with that sort of offensive firepower, they’re going to be the force to be reckoned with that I think they could be.
