The Nominees for the 2019 SoBros Wrestling Awards

AWARDS SZN is well underway here at SoBros Network! We’ve announced our ‘Spirit of Nashville’ Award nominees, our ‘Best of Nashville’ Awards, and our staff awards. We’re wrapping it all up by announcing the 2019 SoBros Wrestling Awards!

A panel of highly trusted advisors convened and crafted the ballot below. Nominations were made based off of success in our coverage area, which is roughly all of the Midsouth and some of the Midwest (we’re working on getting that map up in the office so we can put pins on towns we’ve covered shows in. That’s high priority).

Regardless, find your local promotion and support independent wrestling, y’all. LFG.

The 2019 SoBros Wrestling MVP

Cabana Man Dan – Dan quietly has one of the best bodies of work in SUP this year: Dominic Garrini, Matthew Justice, Gary Jay, Marko Stunt, and of course, that bloodbath between They Might Be Giants and Violence Is Forever. He also got the pin for his team in that big SUP six-man tag at The Collective, and won the big gold belt down at New South.

AJ Gray – You don’t build a current Mount Rushmore of Tennessee wrestling without Gray. He’s made noise from Memphis to Knoxville, but in 2019, he’s been everywhere from Black Label Pro to GCW to Beyond. Every time you see him, he has a new championship belt with him, and his body of work this year has been outstanding. People that have still been sleeping on Gray are about to wake up.

Brett Ison – Speaking of the Mount Rushmore of Tennessee wrestling, “The Pitbull” has had an uncanny year. His list of opponents since our last voting period is insane: B-Boy (twice), Marko Stunt, Nick Gage, O’Shay Edwards, J.D. Drake, Anthony Henry, Allie Kat, James Storm, Gary Jay, Matt Tremont, etc. He held SUP’s Bonestorm Championship for nearly an entire year. “The Human Shotgun” has become the face of professional wrestling in Nashville.

AC Mack – I’ve been largely critical of Mack’s tactics, but even his most vocal detractors have no choice but to respect the accolades Mack has accrued this year. He’s been the ACTION Wrestling Champion for the entirety of 2019, was the runner-up in the Scenic City Invitational, and recently captured SUP’s Bonestorm Championship. They don’t call him “The Title Snatcher” for nothing.

Violence Is Forever – Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku have run roughshod over the Southern Underground Pro tag team division in 2019, winning an absolute war with Cabana Man Dan and Marko Stunt to capture the SUP Tag Team Trophy. They’ve proven unstoppable in The Basement East.

Warhorse – To quote Mose from a recent episode of Checks and Championships, “it’s one thing to wrestle everywhere. It’s another to actually win everywhere.” Warhorse is winning all over the damn country in 2019. The icing on the cake was capturing the IWTV Championship and winning Black Label Pro’s Turbo Graps 16.
