The SoBros Mailbag: 85th Edition – Somehow, I Got on a Rant About Starwood

Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, use #SoBrosMailbag to hit us up on Twitter.

Question:

Answer:

I’ve seen New York City. I’ve seen San Francisco. And, I’ve gotten a small sample of just about every region in between. I’ve been all over the midwest, the south, the Rocky Mountains…basically everywhere except for New England, the Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles, and Texas (I went when I was too young to remember so I don’t count it).

Honestly, I can’t ever see myself venturing too far from the South. I like it here. It feels like home. I dig the weather. I’m cool with the slower pace of life. So, for me…if given the choice…I think I’d probably just get me a cabin up in the Smoky Mountains somewhere and call it a career.

Also, my girlfriend’s from New Jersey, and I think it gets a bad rap. I could totally post up in the woods up there somewhere. The whole abrasiveness of people from the northeast is completely blown out of proportion. At least to me…I like how direct the people are. You don’t really wonder where people stand and there’s a lot less passive aggressive fake niceness up there.

But, still….Gatlinburg.

Question:

Answer:

I also can’t remember if you’ve asked this before, Brett, so I apologize if I’ve already answered this.

I can’t do country music. I don’t know if it’s from growing up hearing nothing but country on the radio or what, but it just drives me up a wall. I can listen to some of the old school country, and I do enjoy Chris Stapleton, but most of this stuff today just sucks. I know, people are probably going to ‘OK Boomer’ me on this, especially in Nashville. But, I like the way things used to be. Nothing will grab my attention (in a negative way) like hearing Florida Georgia Line come on the radio.

Otherwise, I’m laid back. That’s really the only thing that comes to mind when I thought about how to answer this question.

Question:

Answer:

I’m a Nashville guy through and through, so my immediate reaction to this question was, “put me on the undercard at Buzzfest….mid 2000s….at Starwood.” We went one year that Mudvayne headlined it and saw fuckin’ chairs flying through the air towards the mosh pit. FULL cans of coke were hitting people in the head. It was a scene. I went every year it was there. Hell, it was the highlight of the year during my high school/college years.

Damn it, I miss Starwood. That shit fucked. Just go sit out in the grass all fuckin’ day listening to music. Who made the call to close it down? I’m getting angry, so I need to move on from this question.

Question, from Craig on Facebook:

What are your thoughts on impeachment?

Answer:

Damn it, Craig. Don’t make me do this. I’ve run this site for four years now. I always told the team, “we’re not going to cover politics until we can make fun of both sides equally,” and we’re simply not there yet.

But, that said, as a word and strictly rated on how it sounds rolling off the tongue, ‘impeachment’ is pretty fun to say. Try it….

…..impeachment.
