Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields had himself one hell of a season. He threw 40 touchdowns to just one interception. His 190.3 passer rating was fourth in the country. He finished fourth in the 2019 Heisman voting, while I had him at third in the SoBros Heisman Watch. The Buckeyes are 13-0, in large part due to the stellar play of Fields.
But, damn y’all. We just handed out the 2019 Heisman Trophy. Joe Burrow had a special season. We’re gearin’ up for the playoffs. We haven’t even played the first damn bowl game. And, OddsShark is already talkin’ about Justin Fields winning the 2020 Heisman Trophy.
This opens up the door for the 2020 favorite and the man who finished fourth in the 2019 Heisman voting, Ohio State QB Justin Fields at +250.
Online sportsbook Bovada has Fields as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2020 at +250 followed by Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence at +300, Alabama QB Mac Jones at +800, Auburn QB Bo Nix at +900 and Georgia QB Jake Fromm and Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler, both at +1000, to round out the top players on the oddsboard.
It’s just entirely too early for this shit. I can’t do it. This is like the stores putting out the Christmas decorations in July.
How many times do we have to get burned before we give up trying to predict the Heisman winner 12 months ahead of time? Trevor Lawrence, anyone?
How many people lost money because Lawrence got red hot during the postseason last year and they confidently threw that money down? Could Fields be the guy in 2020? Sure! He’s a damn talented kid – but if you’re going to give me one dude or the field A YEAR OUT from the season actually being played….I’m going to take the field every time. There’s no better example of this than Burrow.
Just hold onto your money, folks. Don’t buy in.
