Welcome all degenerate gamblers back into my weekly American football column, Tank the 401k. Here, I will divulge all my eagle-eyed opinions on the upcoming week. Call your bookie and empty those retirement accounts (actually, don’t really do that – this is just sarcasm. My lawyers say I shouldn’t claim to be an expert on anything)!

Well, here we are – another NFL season is in the books and we’re gearing up for what figures to be an exciting postseason. This year feels like as wide open a field as we’ve seen in many a year. Your boy’s pumped, so let’s get into this slate of wild card games. That’s right – not a single curse word in this week’s edition of Tank the 401k.

BIG NATURAL’S TANK THE 401K PICKS

NFL: Buffalo +3 @ Houston – I actually like the Bills to win this one outright. There’s plenty of big play potential on the Texans offense, but the Bills defense is built to limit those big plays. Sean McDermott has constructed a defense that looks tailor made to stop an offense like the Texans. Even if Levi Wallace is unable to play, the Bills secondary should be able to hang with that lethal Texans receiving corps. It’s on Josh Allen and the offense to put up enough points to win. I think they eek out a close one, 20-17.

NFL: Tennessee @ New England, OVER 43 – I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Titans go on the road and light up the Patriots. I also wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Pats wake up at home after an embarrassing loss to the Dolphins. So, I’m staying away from the point spread and playing the over instead. Even on the road against a vaunted Pats defense, the Titans have a balanced, dynamic offense that can score on anyone. And, I don’t know that Titans fans are confident that the defense can stop anyone after the way AJ McCarron was able to move the ball early on against the Titans. Don’t be surprised to see this one end 28-24.

NFL: New Orleans -7.5 vs. Minnesota – The Vikings once looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Now, they’ve stumbled themselves into the #6 seed in the NFC, and they have to travel to New Orleans, where Drew Brees is 6-1 in the playoffs. Given how these teams finished the season, this one could get ugly for the Vikings.

NFL: Seattle -1.5 @ Philadelphia – I have no problem with each division champ getting a playoff spot, but the fact that the Eagles host a playoff game at 9-7 is a bit much. Seattle has been in a lot of close games this season, and the Eagles seem to be on a roll as of late, but I still trust the magic of Russell Wilson to get it done comfortably. The Seahawks have looked like the vastly superior team this season.

W-L Record: (8-7)
Last Week: (4-1)
On the Season: (40-35-1) – 53%
