Firing Bill O’Brien Sounds Absolutely Absurd

Houston Texans fans are bursting at the seams with rage directed towards head coach Bill O'Brien, but it's not time to fire the guy just yet.

The Houston Texans went on the road on Sunday and, despite getting up 24-0, lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 51-3. It was a good old fashioned railroading, as it were. Now, Texans fans are calling for the head of Bill O’Brien.

That just seems a bit hasty guys. I mean, we’re talking about a man who took over this franchise and proceeded to have five winning seasons in six years. The guy has won FOUR AFC South Championships. At times, they’ve looked like real contenders, despite going 2-4 in the playoffs.

Going 4-12 in 2017 was the only bad season this guy has had since taking over in Houston. I guess being a perennial division favorite isn’t enough for the city of Houston. I guess making the playoffs pretty much every year isn’t enough.

Nope – one bad game is enough to undo all of the tremendous work that Bill O’Brien has done for the Texans.

O’Brien’s decisions to kick a field goal on fourth-and-one and fake a punt in Houston territory on another fourth down a short time later have come in for heavy scrutiny. The Chiefs scored 28 straight second quarter points to go into halftime with a lead and kept pouring it on after the break as O’Brien couldn’t stop the bleeding.

Okay, well yeah – when you put it like that, it sounds bad. It sounds like some really dumb coaching. But, that’s not the O’Brien way. You have to look at his entire resume, in my opinion, and his entire resume is WINNING.

There is absolutely no reason to fire Bill O’Brien and he should stay with the Texans, playing the Tennessee Titans twice a year. The Texans will probably never ever ever need a better head coach, and in case I wasn’t clear enough, the best way for the Texans to get over the hump and win a Super Bowl is to stick with O’Brien….forever.

Please do not fire Bill O’Brien.
