Marshal Yanda Claiming Big Jeff Spit in His Face Is a Weird Story

 In Uncategorized

Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Marshal Yanda has made headlines this week by accusing Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons of spitting in his face in the 28-12 loss to the Titans on Saturday night.

Courtesy of Fox News:

“I just want to put him on notice, in the media. I’ve never done this in my career,” Yanda said. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to play football, and that guy did not do it the right way today. So the refs and everybody in the NFL need to put him on notice. Like I said, I’ve never been spit in my face, and I literally got spit right in my face by No. 98.”

Why does this feel like Marshal Yanda has invited you up into his house after a first date? “I swear I never do this, buuut…”

This is just weird. The timing couldn’t be worse. If he had waited a few days or something, maybe it’s different. Instead, he tried to blast the kid in front of a microphone right after that kid and his fellow defensive line-mates kicked his ass.

But, no one’s come out to back Yanda’s claims. There wasn’t video of the incident or anything. Simmons has yet to comment on it. Maybe it’s being talked about more in Baltimore, but this just seems like a non-story right now. It didn’t have the effect Yanda wanted at all.

Instead, it just looks like Yanda is pouting. And, that was the case for a few Ravens Saturday night. They “beat themselves” according to Lamar Jackson. They “choked” according to Marlon Humphrey. Mark Ingram was the only one who stepped up and said, “we got our asses kicked.”

So, it just looks like sour grapes.

Plus, there’s an element of ‘holier than thou’ here – Yanda speaks of himself as if he’s some paragon of virtue. Are we supposed to just forget about that time you spit in Vontaze Burfict’s face? Hm? So, yeah – maybe he’s a stand-up dude, but I don’t know that I’m buying this whole thing.

What I really hate out of all of this is the Ravens fans on social media bringing up Simmons’ “character concerns.” It’s such a blanket statement these days. Using an event that happened years ago as evidence that Big Jeff spit in Yanda’s face. GTFO.

Before I go, I do want to at least mention that I don’t think we would be responsible journalists here on this site if we didn’t at least….are we sure Marshal Yanda didn’t deserve to be spit on? Even if it’s true, look – we all know….sometimes, you just have to spit in a man’s face. Gotta remind ’em that you’re the boss and they are trash.

I don’t expect much to come from this story.
