BAD BOYS FOR LIFE
3.5 out of 5 stars
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence know what works for their Bad Boys franchise, and this solid shoot’em up sequel does not disappoint. They are back and reinvigorated. The almost two decade gap between Bad Boys II and this third chapter does no damage to their chemistry. It’s off the charts. Funny and action-packed, it’s a good time for two hours. Just be sure to run with the ridiculousness rather than against it. But you already knew that.
Michael Bay is out and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are in to let Smith and Lawrence strut their stuff while squeezing in some integral emotion between the violence and mayhem that began way back in the ’90s. Having the old-school duo of Mike and Marcus face their own mortality and the sins from their past proves they are not invincible. They really are human after all! Adil and Bilall surprise with a character-driven action flick in a genre that has little interest in showing its softer side. What a difference it makes for Bad Boys for Life.
