Who Won the 2020 NFL Draft?
It’s been a long week in the content game, as every football writer in the nation has been shelling out article after article on the 2020 NFL Draft. We haven’t been any different, but now that the dust has fully settled on the weekend, it’s time for me to share some of my big winners from this year’s draft. LFG!
Who Won the 2020 NFL Draft?
Los Angeles Chargers – This is a team that isn’t too far removed from a postseason appearance. They lost a lot of close games a season ago, and could find themselves in contention again in 2020. The Chargers did a great job of filling in immediate holes while also getting a few pieces for the future. I love the selections of Justin Herbert and Kenneth Murray in the first round and adding a few weapons later on, specifically the value of K.J. Hill in the 7th.
Philadelphia Eagles – I really don’t get the hate for the Eagles draft. Was Jalen Hurts a luxury pick in the 2nd round? Maybe. But, I love the fit – he’s a nice contingency plan for Carson Wentz. If they develop him properly, they could end up trading him in a few seasons and getting good value out of him. But, on a base level, they can use this guy in unique packages right away. I also love the Jalen Raegor pick – dude was one of my favorite receivers heading into this draft. Getting Quez Watkins in the 6th round stockpiles that receiving corps with speed. Davion Taylor, Jack Driscoll, and Casey Toohill were also good value picks.
Tennessee Titans – The Titans drafted four guys who could be key contributors as early as 2020 – Isaiah Wilson, Kristian Fulton, Darrynton Evans, and Larrell Murchison. Talk about value. Then, they got an athletic developmental quarterback late in the draft. All in all, Jon Robinson knocked it out of the park.
Indianapolis Colts – The Colts did a nice job of supplementing areas of need with good value in last weekend’s draft, but loading up on offense by taking Michael Pittman, Jr. and Jonathan Taylor early gives this unit a shot in the arm that could make Philip Rivers and company contenders in 2020.
Carolina Panthers – It was all about defense for Matt Rhule and company. They snagged Derrick Brown early on, who some thought might’ve been the third best player in the entire draft. Then, getting Yetur Gross-Matos in the 2nd round was an absolute steal. I like Jeremy Chinn and Troy Pride Jr. as well. The Panthers might’ve found some new cornerstone pieces to overhaul a defense that needed it.
Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys desperately needed a corner, but how do you pass on CeeDee Lamb when he falls to you at #17?! The temptation was too great, and Jerry Jones ended up rolling the dice – it paid off, as the Cowboys still ended up with Trevon Diggs in the 2nd round. Neville Gallimore and Bradlee Anae also made for nice value picks at positions of need.
Minnesota Vikings – I mean, yeah….sure…it’s hard NOT to get excited about new prospects when you have FIFTEEN of them. But, I still say the Vikings nailed it with a new starting receiver (Justin Jefferson) and cornerback (Jeff Gladney) in the first round. They upgraded their offensive line with Ezra Cleveland, and got good value in Cam Dantzler and James Lynch.
New York Giants – The decision to take Andrew Thomas over Jedrick Wills and Tristran Wirfs is questionable, but the bottom line is that the Giants have anchored their offensive line, and that was a major priority in this draft. They followed Thomas up with Matt Peart and Shane Lemieux to further bolster the unit. They got the best safety in the draft in Xavier McKinney in the second round, and loaded up on linebacker and defensive back help. Totally solid draft.
And the winner is…
Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens committed highway robbery last weekend. Patrick Queen falling to them in the first round was incredible. Then, they double and triple down on value with J.K. Dobbins and Justin Madubuike. They had 10 picks and there wasn’t a single one that I didn’t like or understand.
