On Checks and Championships, John Mosley and myself like to offer up a bit of variety in our little corner of the wrestling podcast world. We love our interviews, and are incredibly grateful for all the guests we’ve had over the last year or so since we started…like….actually interviewing people. We love our recap shows, preview shows, and all of the analysis in between. But, the quarantine forced us to act on an idea we’ve been kicking around for quite some time: the watch-along.

Watch-alongs are fun, right?! You get to experience something through a new set of eyes or two, and hopefully, you’re entertained along the way. At least, that’s what we’re hoping for here. Instead of having to sift through the archives one of these days, I decided to go ahead and keep a running log of these episodes here on SoBros Network dot com, with links to each show.

Pick a random match, fire up the pod, and let’s have some fun. Don’t forget to subscribe to Checks and Championships on Apple Podcasts!

A Snapshot of the Watch-Alongs on Checks and Championships

Necro Butcher vs. Samoa Joelink – This was our starting point on this project. We had been talking about doing something like this for awhile, but the interviews were coming so strong and steady that we never really had the opportunity. With the quarantine coming in and knocking the wrestling industry on its heels, we thought that would provide us the perfect opportunity to kick this series off. We’re starting with a match that is one of the most legendary brawls on the indie scene…one that I had never seen prior to this show.

Shawn Michaels vs. Stone Cold Steve Austinlink – This was recorded during WrestleMania week this year. It’s a special match, sure, because it marked the beginning of the Austin era. But, it also happened to be the main event of the show that got Mose into wrestling. So, there’s some special sentiment there. This was the first time I had watched this match back since I was kid and boy was it a different experience than I initially remember.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Kazuchika Okada – link – This one was simple – it was Mose’s birthday, so he got to pick the match. I had never seen this one, to the surprise of no one. Actually, I don’t think I had ever watched any NJPW match prior to this one. So, it was not only an introduction to these two superstars for me, but an introduction to an entire style of wrestling as well.

What a wide array of matches to start this gimmick with. For the Checks and Championships archives, click here.
