They Should Let Dennis Kelly and Isaiah Wilson Wrestle for the Starting RT Job

Stoney Keeley has a practical solution that will have the RT battle sewed up before camp even starts: let Dennis Kelly and Isaiah Wilson wrestle for it.

The Tennessee Titans have had a hell of an offseason so far. They killed it in the 2020 NFL Draft, and appear poised to make another run at a potential AFC Championship in 2020. And, while it’s not quite time to start talking about camp battles and the preseason….assuming we even get those things…it’s still May, and there’s not shit else to write about. So, I’m going to examine one of the biggest questions as we head into the summer: is Dennis Kelly or Isaiah Wilson going to start the season at right tackle?

I, for one, was stunned when the Titans invested a first round selection in Wilson. That’s not a knock on the kid – I just didn’t think it was the greatest position of need on the team. Never mind, as the Titans ended up with Kristian Fulton in the second round because Jon Robinson is a wizard. But, that first round selection raised a few eyebrows for sure.

The Titans let Jack Conklin walk, and he got his big pay day from the Cleveland Browns. Smart move, as there wasn’t enough money to pay everyone who was due. Then, they made re-signing Kelly a priority. Initially, I thought it was a sign that they were giving the dude his spot as the full-time starter at right tackle. But, after drafting Wilson, it looks like it’s possible they could just really value Touchdown Dennis Kelly in his “6th man” role along the offensive line. It’s a role he’s excelled in, and when you run the ball the way the Titans do, having that kind of depth is important. I mean, the logic holds up – but this is definitely going to be a competition to watch.

Well, Jon Robinson and/or Mike Vrabel, if you’re reading this – don’t worry about deciding between the two. I think I’ve figured out how you solve this problem – let the two big boys wrassle.

It’s the easiest way to see who wants it more. I’m no expert. I’m just a guy with a stupid website. But, I don’t know that watching football practice is a good measure of desire. Y’all should know there’s a difference between game speed and practice speed – you can’t get game speed in practice or else there would be no such thing as practice speed. But, you can definitely get game speed in a wrestling match with such high stakes.

Yeah, I think that tracks.

Anyway, what I do know is that if you put two big behemoths in the squared circle, and you tell ’em that whoever wins is going to be the starting right tackle for the by God Tennessee Titans, you’re going to find out REAL QUICK. This would be like getting Undertaker in his prime vs. Andre The Giant in his prime – it’s a veritable dream match.

Dennis Kelly stands at 6’8″ and 321 pounds. Meanwhile, Isaiah Wilson is 6’7″ at 350 pounds. Make no mistake about it – these are two big thicc bois. Reinforce the ring! I don’t know whether Wilson is a big wrestling fan or not, but we know Kelly is, so I’d probably give him the edge when it comes to experience. At the very least, the dude knows how to throw a chokeslam. If he gets Wilson up for a gigantic jack knife powerbomb, it’s ball game. That said, you gotta wonder how Wilson’s raw power would come into play. He’s got that raw Hacksaw Jim Duggan vibe to him that says he could just run your ass over and call it a fuckin’ day!

Maybe Taker-Andre isn’t the dynamic here, but it’s more like John Cena vs. Big Show. The athleticism vs. the raw power. Look – the WWE is looking for content right now. They gave the damn 24/7 Championship to Gronk. There’s room for a partnership here that makes everyone a little money – the Titans, TDK, Wilson, the WWE, whichever venue ‘Kelly vs. Wilson’ is hosted in. It’s genius.

Listen – I’m an idea guy. Big time idea guy. You guys don’t have to give me credit for this. I’m not clout chasing. I’m just genuinely interested in helping out the team. So, feel free to take my idea, put it on pay-per-view, make a million dollars, and then boom – you’ve answered your right tackle question while you’re at it. That’s like….six birds with one stone. Why kill two birds when you can kill half a dozen?

This is it, guys. I promise I’m going to stop writing TDK into wrestling matches, even though I’m still waiting on Vince McMahon to make Kelly vs. Undertaker happen.
