Is Parkour Supposed to Look This Painful?

As an avid street art enthusiast, I am naturally a fan of the art that is common street parkour. For those of you who might not know, parkour is the act of doing sick flips and spins and shit off of ordinary objects on the street.

The beauty of it is that any old street corner is the parkourista’s blank canvas….just waiting for art to be made. I used to dabble in the practice myself, believe it or not. One time, on my birthday, I jumped up on a rail, and walked a few feet before jumping down and screaming loudly. At least three people saw me do it, and it was the most exhilarating moment of my entire life.

But, in all my years studying the practice, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a technique that looks quite as painful as this dude’s….

Is this art? Yes. Is it beautiful art? Double yes. But, I would have to question how long your body can hold up doing this kind of act. It looks more like a wrestling match than the extreme sport that is parkour. I mean, his body just freezes in mid-air, and he comes crashing to the pavement like a sack of potatoes. It just seems counterintuitive, y’know?

I thought the point was to land on your feet, but you know, they say there are no rules in the world of art anyway so who am I to judge?

My favorite part of this movie is the dude that’s just sitting there like, “wtf are you doin’ m8?” He is completely unphased by the performance, and he definitely doesn’t give a shit that this dude is hurtin’ on the pavement.

Bravo to all involved.
