For those that don’t know, I’m a bit of a collector. I don’t know how respectable it is to flaunt that as a fully grown 34 year old man, but it’s the cold hard truth. That’s what we’re all about here – the cold hard truth and being transparent with you guys. I’m not too bad….I hope not anyway, but I’m not sure what my fiancé would say about that. I have my comic books. I have my Funko Pops. And, I love collecting inventory for the Nerd Shop – taking those random nostalgic walks down Memory Lane, and adding unique stuff to the store.
My Funko Pop collection has gotten a little out of control, I’ll admit. I don’t tend to sell things as quickly as I buy them, but that’s part of the fun of collecting. I enjoy the “thrill of the hunt,” if you will…hitting all the spots around town in hopes of finding a hidden gem.
So, you could imagine my surprise when I opened a birthday gift back in June to see a Funko Pop of yours truly, “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley, the EIC, staring back at me. After awhile, you know the box – so you open a gift, you see the shape, the general design of the package, etc. My first thought was, “oh, cool – the fam picked out a new one for my collection..” When it sank in what the gift actually was, it just completely blew me away.
There I was, in my signature ‘SoBros 6:15′ shirt and the blue shorts I wore so much that they now have a hole in ’em. I even had on flip-flops, which I basically live in. The SoBros Network logo was plastered across the back of the box. I mean, this thing looked as legit as the ones sitting on the shelves at Books-A-Million.
That’s when I heard the story of how this whole thing came together. The fam reached out to All Star Custom Figures and got the ball rolling. Brian came through clutch to get this thing rushed and ready for my birthday. Everyone involved was singing this man’s praises.
