Russell Wilson goes back-to-back topping Stoney's list of the MVP performances of the week.

Welcome in to the 2020 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2020 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2020 NFL MVP WATCH: WEEK 2

5. Jared Goff, Rams QB – Goff was on fire Sunday, as the Rams buried the Eagles 37-19. The third highest rated passer of the weekend, Goff went 20/27 for 267 yards and three touchdowns. If he and Sean McVay can recreate the magic from 2018, Goff could emerge as a legitimate MVP candidate.

4. Aaron Jones, Packers RB – Jones and Matt LaFleur is a match made in heaven. The Packers running back is leading the NFL in rushing yards through two weeks (234), and against the Lions, he posted 168 rushing yards with two touchdowns, and an additional 68 yards and a receiving touchdown through the air. Jones is averaging two scores per game so far this season.

3. Josh Allen, Bills QB – I keep saying that if Allen takes the next step as a quarterback in 2020, then the Bills are going to be legit contenders. Watch out AFC – I keep sayin’ it, and Allen keeps doin’ it. In the win over the Dolphins, Allen was 24/35 for 417 yards, four touchdowns, and a league-leading 147 passer rating. We’ll see how it holds up when he’s playing teams other than the Jets and the Dolphins, but so far, Allen looks like a bona fide MVP candidate.

2. Ryan Tannehill, Titans QB – Without Tannehill, the Titans are not 2-0, and THAT is the definition of ‘value,’ folks. I don’t care if you call me a homer since I cover the Titans on this website. Tannehill demonstrated toughness, leadership, poise – everything you want out of your signal-caller – in that 33-30 win over a game Jags team. He was 18/24 for 239 yards and four touchdowns, finishing only behind Allen in passer rating on the week (145.7).

1. Russell Wilson, Seahawks QB – That Sunday night game was something else. How can you watch a performance like that and NOT recognize the greatness of Russell Wilson? That man put five touchdowns on the board, but it was his precision that was most breathtakingly noticeable – he just couldn’t miss. Wilson finished 21/28 for 288 yards, five touchdowns, and a pick six. Has there ever been a better quarterback to never really be considered the best in the league at any point in his career?

Let Russ cook.
