Congrats ya’ll, we’ve almost made it to the end of 2020. As we round out this year, it’s important to stay safe and healthy, and to be intentional about where your money will be going this holiday season.

It’s been an especially strained year for the small businesses and restaurants in Nashville. Ever since the March tornados, I feel like all my favorite spots have been trying to keep their heads above water. So, the SoBros wanted to spotlight a few of our beloved businesses that could help you cross off everyone on your shopping list.

Stoney’s pick

Rick’s Comic CityWebsite – “I’ve come across a ton of comic book shops in my day, but they all pale in comparison to Rick’s. Now, there are multiple locations in the area, but I’m talking strictly about the Donelson location today. Rick’s has everything from modern comics to the gems of yesteryear. There’s a huge collection of graphic novels, Funko Pops, assorted collectibles, and much more. Even if you can’t decide what to get, a Rick’s gift card is the perfect gift for the nerd in your life.” Located at 2720 Old Lebanon Rd, Nashville, TN37214

I’d also throw the Mt. Juliet Beer Company and Big Star Cigar in the mix if you have a beer/cigar aficionado in your life and want to get them something exquisite. Both stores are east of town in Mount Juliet, but offer a tremendous selection.

Steven’s pick

Alison’s Record Shop – Website – This record shop calls themselves the “destination for vintage vinyl.” Our own music columnist, Steven McCash, said that once he discovered Alison’s, he was “immediately in danger of going bankrupt“. Their website also mentions that they buy and clean vintage records. Located at 994A Davidson Dr. Nashville, TN 37205

Brittany’s pick

Lawrence and Clarke Cacti Co.Website – I am loving how proud and involved plant owners have become over the past couple years. Plant lovers have always been around, but now we have one of the coolest businesses around to amuse our green thumbs. Every time I go into Lawrence and Clarke, I’m met with some of the most helpful and kind folks in retail. They can answer any questions for you, and even assist in potting and repotting. Located at 2003 Old Hickory Blvd TN 37138

A few more businesses I need to mention:

  • Dino’s Bar for the best dive bar burger you’ll have in Nashville.
  • Nectar: Urban Cantina for amazing margaritas and tacos.
  • Sunflower Bakehouse for the best vegan biscuits and gravy you’ll have.
  • Don Julio Restaurant for authentic Mexican cuisine, and because it’s MY spot so I want them to thrive.
  • The Southern V for plant based southern food.

Nashville obviously has tons and tons of small businesses, so we would love to hear about some of your favorites.

Be merry, and shop local.
