Hello old friends. It is nice to see all of you made it to the next level of Jumanji. 2020 was a hell of ride and 2021 has not really given us much hope yet to think it’s going to be any better. The one thing that I do not mind it having in common with its predecessor is the continuation of solid new album releases. 2021 is off to a great start with some great new tunes to add to your “The World Is Losing Its Goddamn Mind” playlist

Buck Meek Two Saviors

Brooklyn based indie rock band Big Thief has spent the last five years releasing new music at a fevered pace and touring just as relentlessly. Lead singer Adrianne Lenker released a critically acclaimed record in 2020 and the guitar slinging Texan of the group, Buck Meek, finds himself in the same company with his new release. Buck is accustomed to working along side Adrianne while creating new music but finds himself surrounded by his bandmates in Louisiana while recording Two Saviors while Adrianna takes some time to herself in Upstate New York.

The warm and inviting atmosphere delivered on Two Saviors comes from his beautiful guitar playing and campfire story telling. The textures and the twang of Buck’s voice along with recording the album during a hot Louisiana summer help shape the record. The songwriting of Meek and the smooth production by Andrew Sarlo round out the record. “Candle” and “Second Sight” are two of the albums more stellar tracks.

Beach Bunny Blame Game

Beach Bunny is the first band to repeat as a feature on New Music Friday. Last year, they released their much-hyped debut album Honeymoon to critical success. Band leader Lili Trifilio and the rest of the band have seen their confidence as a group skyrocket over the last year and that newfound confidence is on display throughout the four song EP.

Beach Bunny turns from the themes of love that were so heavy on their debut and turns their focus to sexism, toxic male masculinity and some of the hardships that come with relationships. Trifilio’s sass and sarcasm that fans have to come to embrace and love is completely in your face on the fun track “Love Sick.”

Blame Game albeit quick at 14 minutes is a perfect next step for the band following their successful debut, Honeymoon.
