CFB Roundup: Dabo Swinney Does NOT Have the Drip

The Clemson Tigers are clinging to an AP Top 25 ranking at #25 after being upset by NC State on Saturday.

Let’s dive into the week that was in college football and hit all the highlights on the SoBros Network’s College Football Roundup.

*The big upset of the week saw NC State taking down Clemson. The Tigers are now 2-2, and barely clinging on to an AP Top 25 ranking at #25. They just haven’t quite looked that good. And, I’m sorry to point this out, but I was told that Dabo Swinney was an elite program-builder and would be able to withstand all the losses he’s incurred to the NFL. I thought Coach Swinney had the drip.

Instead, this program looks like it’s taken a major step back, and hey – maybe it’s fair to ask how much that Clemson dynasty had to do with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence as opposed to Swinney. Is that probably just an overreaction to a bad start to this season? Probably. Do I just not like Swinney? Yeah, maybe that’s it. But, I’m still going to ask it. Clemson is 4th in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, and they play 4-0 Boston College next week. Big time yikes for Clemson fans – sorry, Stan.

*After convincing wins over Texas and now Texas A&M, I’m going to go ahead and say that the Arkansas Razorbacks are legit. They absolutely punched the Aggies in the mouth. I love the way they’ve taken on the personality of their head coach, Sam Pittman – just grinding it out and hittin’ people with the slobberknocker. We’ll see if they can go from fun story to legit contenders this week with a massive showdown with Georgia on deck.

*Let’s be real – Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin was a total snoozefest. I think Graham Mertz and the Badgers offense set offensive football back by about 20 years with that performance on Saturday. Pick six on pick six on pick six. But, credit to Notre Dame’s defense for making them pay. We’ve talked about Notre Dame on the podcast this season, saying we’re not really sure what to make of them just yet. That game was a statement, and I think they’re getting their shit together. This game coming up against Cincinnati next week could be a de facto College Football Playoff elimination game.

*Shout out TCU, even though they took the L, they bowed up and refused to let SMU plant their flag at midfield. Why that feels like a win, I don’t know – we got too many people trying to plant flags these days and maybe that’s a good metaphor for American society.

*Oklahoma is SHAKY – I don’t know quite what to make of the Sooners just yet, but I don’t think it’s good that they’re playing in all of these close games. I was told that Spencer Rattler was a Heisman contender and the favorite to be the first overall draft pick next Spring. That’s just not happening right now, and they look like anything BUT a College Football Playoff contender, barely squeaking out wins against Tulane, Nebraska, and now West Virginia. Those teams are a combined 5-8. Something has to click for this team, or it’s going to be rough once the schedule gets a little tougher.

*Take one on the chin, Vandy fans. You have no choice. This team stinks…like historically stinks. I can’t believe I even remotely bought in to Clark Lea and his bullshit. I don’t know if this team is going to get another win this season. The Georgia Bulldogs just completely flattened them and the Commodores looked like they didn’t even want to finish that game. Looooooong season ahead in Nashville.

*How on Earth did this catch happen?

*How about the Bowling Green Falcons? One of if not the worst team in all of college football a season ago just totally bowing up and upsetting a Minnesota team that was supposed to be pretty good. At 2-2, Bowling Green sits atop the MAC’s East division lol. And, what happened to PJ Fleck and the whole ‘row the boat’ thing? Are we cooling off on him yet?

*Iowa State is officially out of the CFP race after losing to Baylor. I really thought they had something this year – veteran quarterback, one of the best running backs in the country, a good coach who always comes up in conversations when big jobs open up, and an Oklahoma team that just didn’t look that good….but, they just aren’t getting it done.

*Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of big thicc men lifting each other up:

*Is Rutgers back? I mean, I know they lost, but I think it’s fair to ask – they’re 3-1 and they’re playing good ball. And, I’ll go ahead and say it. They could very well upset Ohio State at home next week.

*This kid from Syracuse wanted to make sure that not a single drop of sweat rolled anywhere down his arm:

*Personally, my top 10 would look like this:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Oregon
  4. Penn State
  5. Cincinnati
  6. Arkansas
  7. Ole Miss
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Notre Dame
  10. BYU
