Podcast: No Sleep ‘Til Detroit

It’s finally here – draft week. We’ve been grinding hard here on our coverage of the 2024 NFL Draft. If you haven’t already, go ahead and grab a copy of the Stacking The Inbox Draft Guide – 313 pages, 275 players, ratings, rankings, and more. It’s a doozy. I hope you guys don’t mind, but I practically took the week off from The Unofficial Titans Podcast. I feel like we’ve talked about every angle possible for the Titans at 7 up to this point. So, it was hard to come up with a show itinerary for the most recent episode. Instead, I did the lazy thing and let you guys write the show for me. That’s right – with me running on fumes, I hit record and simply answered all of your questions on this week’s show.

If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to The Unofficial Titans Podcast on Apple Podcasts, follow us on Spotify, or wherever you take in your podcasts!

Podcast: Drinking With School of Rock

Holy shit, my brain is turning to mush. Either I just never posted the School of Rock pod up here on SoBros Network dot com, or I did and I didn’t categorize it properly. Since I’m OCD and try to get everything possible up on the site for those of you who don’t give a shit about social media and just check the site every day, I’m going to risk doubling up to get this one in the can.

Anyway, this was a fun one to revisit alongside Brandon and McCash because Jack Black’s name has come up several times throughout the course of this podcast’s history, but at this point in the timeline, Black really hasn’t gotten a chance to be a leading man. We dissect how this film impacted the trajectory of Black’s career and potential as the franchise guy on the poster as well as all the usual fun you’re used to having with ‘Drinking With…’. For this one, we’re pouring up a cocktail called the Mount Rock!

To make the Mount Rock, you’ll need:

-1.5 oz bourbon
-2oz ginger ale
-Splash of grenadine

Combine all ingredients and pour over an ice-filled rocks glass.

The SoBros Mailbag 285: The Importance of the NFL Scouting Combine

Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…

Question:

Answer:

I think it depends on the player. You could use Rome Odunze as an example of a guy whose participation in the Combine was definitely a boost to his stock – people watched the tape and thought they saw a guy who struggled to separate, so to see him test well put some of those concerns to rest. For someone like Marvin Harrison Jr., I think the stock is so high that the possibility of the Combine being a detriment to his draft stock is higher.

But, to your point, I do think we’re collectively putting too much stock into the Scouting Combine. At the very least, we’re not acknowledging what it’s really about, and that’s all the meetings and business dealings that are going on amongst NFL personnel people throughout the week. If you consider that alongside the fact that all of these guys are going to run their testing drills at their pro days anyway, maybe it really is pointless for the players.

Question:

Answer:

The longer I do this, the more I realize that you’d need to watch practically every snap of every game every season to even remotely get an accurate assessment on players across different positions. Personally, I’d trust a very select few who say they can accurately assess quality of player across position because it is so subjective. I can tell you that when I say I like a player better than another, I’m using my limited knowledge base to project the impact a player has on a team. That’s kind of how I measure it – so, yeah, I’d probably say Jason Kelce is a better player than, say, Kirk Cousins or Tua Tagovailoa. But, it’s so subjective that even I question myself when I start trying to play that game!

Question:

Answer:

Ed, I’ve always felt like I have a little bit of a black cloud hanging over me as a Nashville sports fan. It seems like every time I feel confident in one of our teams, the bottom falls out. So, forgive me if I’m a little hesitant to anoint the Preds just yet. Maybe I should try to reverse the curse by saying they’re going to be bounced in the first round! Nonetheless, I’ll say this…the Preds are red hot right now, and we’ve seen many a team before get red hot at just the right time and go on a legendary run. I’m not ruling that out for this Preds team.

Question, from McCash on Instagram:

If Tom still ruled social media, who would your Top 8 be right now?

Answer:

Absolutely hate the idea of ranking friends in such fashion, so I would do something funny/ironic/whatever you want to call it: Kesha, Jack Black, the Titans, Applebee’s, Bombay gin, Sheamus, the Visit Nashville account, and Drew McIntyre.

Question:

Answer:

G$, the Mailbag is already at 900 words and I don’t want to send this thing to 2,000….so what I’m going to do here is post a mock draft that I did in which I took Dallas Turner at 7. I’m just going to show it and then I’ll be writing out a thorough explanation for Stacking The Inbox later today….which everyone should be subscribed to for the Draft Guide that just came out alone!

Keep the questions coming – catch y’all next week!

Podcast: The Kirsten Dunst Mount Rushmore

Civil War dropped in theaters last week, and has been a popular topic of discussion among the SoBros team. With a cast that includes Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, and Jesse Plemons, among others, it’s easy to see why! On the latest episode of The Vick’s Flicks Podcast, our resident film critic, Brandon Vick, offers up his review of the film before he brings me in for an overview of the filmography of one of the industry’s most underrated actors. From Jumanji to The Power of the Dog, we’re talking about a career that has spanned decades and somehow still flown under the radar, and we offer up our own Mount Rushmore of Kirsten Dunst flicks.

Podcast: Exploring Draft Scenarios for the Titans

#NoSleepTilDetroit rolls on as we’re pounding the dudes for tables on thi…wait…no…sorry, lack of sleep showing up again. We are pounding the table for different prospects on this week’s episode of Football & Other F Words. Tired of the ordinary mock drafts that have been droning on for months now, Zach cooked up a fun way to accomplish the same discussion that a mock draft would typically inspire in a fun and different way. On this week’s episode, we are mock drafting from three different scenarios – if the Titans stick and pick at #7, if they trade back in the first round, and if they trade back in the second round. When we’re on the clock in each round, Mike, Zach, and I have to stand up, take our shirts off, and pound the table for who we believe should be the pick in that spot. What we end up with is essentially nine different mock drafts.
