Get Ready for Scenic City Invitational With This Badass Playlist

Come August 4th and 5th of the year 2017, the bustling metropolis that is Chattanooga will play host to an event that has been called “the Wrestlemania of The South” (Editor’s note: can we call it that if Wrestlemania was actually in The South this year? Do we count Florida as “The South?”). It’s time for the third annual Scenic City Invitational!

Since 2015, the folks at SCI have put on some tremendous wrestling shows featuring regional and national stars alike. I would’ve been out to last year’s tournament if I wasn’t covered with poison ivy from head to toe. But, hey – shit happens and here we are. I have specifically, and will specifically, stay out of the fucking woods in preparation for this event.

Here’s the full flyer complete with instructions on how to get your ass down there:

This year, my plan is to include LIVE COVERAGE from your boys here at The SoBros Network. Poppa Bear and myself will be down Thursday, while Nature Boy and Cadbury Pringlebatch will head down for the show on Friday.

As a brand, we recorded our first podcast in 2013. The dot com has been up and running since September of 2015, and at this point, I’m thinking we have “the SoBros voice” down. I want us to start getting out and engaging our audience, and creating more event coverage. Now, don’t mistake us for rookies. Lest we forget, we started our live event coverage with the Watertown mile-long yard sale this Spring, where we learned a valuable lesson: never ask what’s in the ‘adults only’ box at a yard sale.

So, I call up the crew and I say, “guys – I have an idea for our first real content trip as a company.” They all immediately buy in. And, why not? It’s pro wrestling. It’s Chattanooga – The South’s best kept secret.

We’re going to head down there to scoop some #content like the #professionals we are. I love the Scenic City – I’m hoping to get some good wrestling content. I know we’re going to do some live podcasts and a travel blog on the entire excursion. I’d love to get some photos of my naturally curvy physique atop Lookout Mountain – eat some Bavarian nachos at Brewhaus, eat some Clumpies ice cream, and any other item of shenanigans we can get ourselves into.

If anyone reading this wants to be a part of our content, feel free to shoot me a DM on Twitter – they are open for business. I mean anyone, too – we like to think we’re just a bunch of regular dudes (and a lady) talkin’ regular, so our goal is to get a broad picture of this event and what it means to people. So, I’d be happy to set something up. Or, you can look around our site, be appalled, and tell us to piss off. That’s fine, too.

All of this is an entirely too long-winded way of saying that we can’t wait for this event. Now, we are a shitty comedy blog with a shitty wrestling podcast. But, most of our guys are WWE guys. We don’t have a lot of free time, so we don’t even stay completely caught up on the ‘E. I’m the only guy who dabbles in the indies from time to time.

I’m thinking, “I need to get the guys some homework. I’m going to put together a little playlist for them to watch.” Now, the Editor in me finally kicks in and says, “damn it, Stoney – what if any of your readers are interested in SCI, but don’t know where to start, either? Shouldn’t you share it with them, too?”

“Well, Stoney, you smart, handsome, girthy sonofabitch – you’re right!” Just like that – I’m reaching out to Twitter asking for recommendations, and Dylan Hales DMs me with a match highlighting each wrestler’s ability and skills. I couldn’t believe it – just the knowledge he had to put this list together so quickly was impressive. It was undoubtedly some sort of wizardry, but out of respect, I didn’t ask.

I am not too proud to admit that someone else completely did my job for me on this project, so I can’t thank Dylan enough for the support.

All kidding aside, from the time I reached out to Papa Hales to reserve a hotel room to the time Dylan sold me our tickets and put together this list for me, these guys have been nothing but the best. I see why the wrestling scene reveres these guys the way they do. Their reputation preceded them, and they both lived up to it. Real ‘salt of the Earth’ gentlemen.

So, with that in mind, I just want to say, we’re beyond stoked, we love Chattanooga, we love wrestling, we encourage you all to join us at this event – so get to know your field for the 2017 Scenic City Invitational:

Matt Lynch (wrestling as Matt Fortune) vs. Joey Lynch:

Gunner Miller vs. Joey Lynch:

Torque vs. Crazzy Steve:

Curt Stallion vs. Michael Elgin:

Jason Kincaid vs. Lio Rush:

Arik Royal vs. Andrew Everett:

Looks like the video of Darby Allin vs. Jason Cade that Dylan passed along was taken down, so as far as Darby Allin goes, well, here’s a fun little match between Curt Stallion and him:

….and as for Jason Cade:

Shane Marx vs. The Gladiator, Jeremiah:

And, finally, a look at the last entrant announced, Dominic Garrini (and a triple dip of some Curt Stallion #TopFuckinProspect, because why not watch three Curt Stallion matches today?):

Gotta mention this showdown on Night 2 of the tourney as well:

And, for no reason whatsoever, here’s Scott Hall popping out of a genie’s lamp to grant Joey Janela a match with Marty Jannetty:

If we’ve left you with an erection and needing more SCI prep material, catch the 2015 and 2016 tournaments on Powerbomb.tv, and check out this nice little write-up of the field on Cageside Seats.

So yeah, in a word or two…it’s going to ‘get lit,’ as the kids are saying, come August 4th and 5th in Chattanooga. If you’re there and reading this, be sure to hit us up. We’re happy to grab a beer and talk wrasslin’ with y’all.

ICYMI: A very tired Football & Other F Words crew gets together to talk about picks that would have them popping champagne this weekend and exhaustingly bad draft takes.
