I know. I know. It’s almost February and I’m just now releasing my favorite films of last year. Hold your judgment because in order for my list to be absolutely complete, I have no choice but to wait for some limited releases in December to reach Music City in January!

Without further ado, we have finally come to the granddaddy of them all–Best Movies of 2015. The year of 2015 was a sensational year when it comes to cinema. As I look through all of the films I saw, whether the budget was $10 million or $100 million, they excite, inspire, resonate, and outrage. That’s the true beauty of going to see a movie on the big screen. If you leave the theater without feeling some kind of ardency, then that story has failed you. I guarantee a film like that is not on this list. No sir!

Five:
ROOM
A thoughtful, devastating film about unlimited imagination and the unwavering bond between a mother and child. Incredible performances by Brie Larson & Jacob Tremblay display horrific suffering while astounding resilience breaks through.
Four:
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
An unhinged, hell raising movie with exhilarating action and a hefty story about humanity in the wasteland. Tom Hardy’s Max is the quiet type, but don’t mistake for weakness while Charlize Theron is a spellbinding badass.
Three:
SICARIO
Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro are outstanding in this taut, constantly uneasy cartel thriller where good guys do not exist. It’s a walk on a severely unmerciful passage for control and to maintain order in a violently depraved world. Director Denis Villeneuve shakes your nerves and mind by having us behold every action leading to a more jolting reaction.
Two:
SPOTLIGHT
An invigorating, stirring film about investigative journalism, and while the the subject is delicate, it’s brilliantly handled. Unsurpassed performances and focused, masterful filmmaking create a story of the up most importance. Be prepared to be immersed & outright infuriated.
One:
THE REVENANT
Incredibly gorgeous filmmaking about a vengeful tale out on the beastly, unforgiving American Frontier; Hardy is ruthless and DiCaprio’s commitment is miraculous, delivering a mortally uncompromising, nearly wordless performance. An extraordinary cinematic experience that’s unhampered & punishable yet worth every drop of blood.
