Two weeks until the 2016 NFL draft, and Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson has officially dealt the #1 overall selection (along with 2016’s 4th & 6th round picks (113 & 177 overall)) to the Los Angeles Rams. In return, the Titans are receiving:
LA’s 2016 1st round pick (15 overall)
LA’s 2016 2nd round picks (43 & 45 overall)
LA’s 2016 3rd round pick (76 overall)
LA’s 2017 1st round pick
LA’s 2017 3rd round pick
Jeff Fisher’s dignity

I’m still working to confirm those final two, but whoa – on the surface, this looks like Robinson put on his shades and bent the Rams over the barrel. What on Earth is the Los Angeles organization thinking? Who in this draft class is worth betting the farm on?
Right now, I think a lot of folks in the know are leaning towards Carson Wentz – I’ve been talking with SoBro Bill about this move all morning, and he was the first to point out what a nice fit Wentz seems to be for Fisher’s offense. Also, if you look at the Los Angeles roster – it doesn’t have too many glaring holes. For a few seasons now, the Rams defense has been among the NFL’s elite, they have a walking steamboat at RB in Todd Gurley, and a decent enough line to not get in his way.
Sure, the team needs some depth at receiver, a tight end, and another defensive back to add in the secondary, but it’s not like this team needed a wealth of draft picks to rebuild a pitiful roster. That’s not where Los Angeles is at.
This isn’t like stealing from your kid’s college fund to pay for your Alaskan cruise.
Maybe no one had their pants pulled down. Maybe this will be a solid move for both organizations. Time will tell.
So, now the Laremy Tunsil/Jalen Ramsey debate is effectively over. There’s a chance the Titans could deal one of their extra 1’s, 2’s, or 3’s to move back up in the first round to select Ramsey, but I think they’d have to give up enough to get back into the top five to get him. Ramsey won’t be available past Dallas. Where do the Titans look if they stay put at #15?
Personally, I think you go with a true right tackle – Ohio State’s Taylor Decker. The Alabama fan in me is rooting for Reggie Ragland. The team could possibly get the best wide receiver in this year’s class, Laquon Treadwell. Or, who knows – maybe Ronnie Stanley or Vernon Hargreaves falls to the middle of the first round.
Regardless, the options are open, and I’m betting that Jon Robinson is just the smooth SOB who likes to keep all of his options open.
What a real dude – a bona fide badass even. This guy took a measly 4th round draft pick, shipped it to Philadelphia in exchange for DeMarco Murray, moved down a meager 13 spots, then basically said, “You can have this 4th rounder too, Los Angeles. I’ve already used it to get my starting running back. I don’t really need it anymore. GIRLBYE!”
Love it – now we know, you don’t do business with Jon Robinson. Jon Robinson does business with you. #TheWolfOfNissanStadium
Unbelievable way to start off a Thursday – two weeks ’til draft time, baby!
