Courtesy of MLive – “MASON COUNTY, MI – If you buy a piece of property with a house on it that you don’t want, it’s not a good idea to burn the structure down.
That’s what a 72-year-old Ottawa County man did, and he may now be facing criminal charges, according to the Mason County sheriff.
The property owner told Mason County deputies that he didn’t intend to pursue an insurance claim or had any malicious intent, said Sheriff Kim Cole. It was just that the house had sat vacant for several years and the man didn’t believe it was worth rehabilitating, according to Cole.
“He just wanted it gone, so he set it on fire,” Cole said.”
Okay, my first point here – this is blatant ageism. How else can you call it? I’ve been saying for years that cops hate old people more than any other minority in America, and this is just the latest piece of evidence to support that claim.
This is a case of a man practicing simple, solid decision-making. He wanted it gone. He set it on fire. Damn, if everyone practiced that kind of problem-solution assessment, I think this country would damn sure be a better place. In a day and age when people overcomplicate every little thing, our 72-year-old man here is demonstrating one of life’s most underrated skills perfectly.
Do you know how much it costs to hire a crew to come out and demo a house? Do you know how long it would take a 72-year-old man to take down a house with nothing but a sledgehammer? Can 72-year-olds even LIFT sledgehammers? I guess he could just rig up his Chevy Equinox and try and demo it himself, but think about the damage to the car!
You know what costs no money or physical exertion? Setting the fucking house on fire.
It’s so reasonable that anyone with a lick of common sense would do it. But, because this guy’s 72 years old, he has the hammer dropped on him.
“The man from West Olive who had recently purchased the property told sheriff deputies he did not realize he needed a permit to burn the structure, Cole said. If he had contacted the local fire department, it’s possible the department would have burned the house for him as a training exercise, Cole said.
Instead, the man may face criminal charges related to burning without a permit and improper disposal of hazardous waste, Cole said. The home contained mattresses and perhaps other materials such as tiles made of materials that could damage the environment when burned, he said.
It will be up to the Mason County prosecutor to determine if charges are appropriate.”
Next thing you know, you’ll need a permit to mow your own lawn or shoot deer in the woods. And, why on Earth would you check with any sort of so-called “authority” on this matter? It’s fire – you know what cures a fire? Water. Stand by with a water bucket and you’ve got all the coverage you need.
I also just taught firefighting 101 in that last statement – what more of a training exercise do you need? “Shit’s on fire, dump water on it.” Now, you’re good to suit up and be a fireman. Life lessons here at the SoBros Network. I also like how mattresses are damaging the environment now, too. PSHHHH GUESS I BETTER START SLEEPING ON MY FLOOR THEN. Give me a break – it’s too late to start caring about the environment, anyway.
Bottom line: it’s just sickening how ageist and PC the Michigan police have become.
