Poppa Bear’s Mock Draft 1.0 and More Than Likely Done.0 Because I’m Terrible At Deadlines

Guess what!

Your man Poppa Bear is back! It’s been a few months since you’ve heard from me. Granted, I’ve been hiding in a cave gently weeping since the National Championship, but now I’m all cried out and ready to get back on my feet.

I’ve emerged from months of self-pity just in time for the NFL Draft! Now, Big Natural has already published his Mock Draft (which I’m sure he’ll link right HERE because he’s good like that). I’m also sure that it’s a well thought out and sensible mock draft. I wouldn’t know, I haven’t read it. Why, you ask? Well, see, Stoney decided to throw down the gauntlet and challenge the kid here to a draft-off. So, in the spirit of fairness, I haven’t looked.

Now, for my Mock Draft, I won’t be mocking any trades. Frankly, that’s almost impossible, and the thought of trying gives me a headache. I’ll also be spending a little more time writing about the Titans’ picks for the first round, because I’m a Titans fan and because I can.

So, buckle up and get ready for some knowledge as I gaze into the crystal ball of my brain and spoil draft day for you. Cheers.

1. Cleveland: Myles Garrett, OLB, Texas A&M – The most obvious choice and best play for Cleveland.

2. San Francisco: Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford – Another obvious choice, the Niners add a solid pass rusher.

3. Chicago: Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama – To be honest, Chicago needs a quarterback. There isn’t a solid one to take at #3 and the Bears can’t pass on Allen.

4. Jacksonville: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU – Blake Bortles might not be the QB of the future, but he could use some help in the back field.

5. Tennessee: Jamal Adams, S, LSU – Adams is one of the two best players in the draft, and is a major upgrade for the Titans secondary. A lot of people are putting Marshon Lattimore here, but I can’t see passing on Adams, or spending the 5th overall pick on a bit of a gamble.

6. NY Jets: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State – The Jets wanted Adams, but are perfectly happy with Hooker, who is almost as solid.

7. LA Chargers: Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State – Lattimore stays in the top 10 to hopefully help the Chargers secondary.

8. Carolina: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford – Honestly, I’m still not sure McCaffrey is a top 10 pick, but he could do a lot of damage teamed with Cam Newton.

9. Cincinnati: Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama – The Bengals have needs at RB, but with Fournette gone, they add needed depth at LB with the hard-hitting Foster.

10. Buffalo: Mike Williams, WR, Clemson – Williams rounds out the top ten, adding a much-needed dynamic receiving threat to the Bills, and help for Tyrod Taylor.

11. New Orleans: Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee – The Saints defense has been atrocious the last three years. They must go defense here, and Barnett is the best difference maker available.

12. Cleveland: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina – The Browns get their QB without having to trade up.

13. Arizona: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama – I’m not buying Mahomes in the first round, but the Cards could use some help in the secondary.

14. Philadelphia: Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan – Davis doesn’t wait long to come off the board. I think the Eagles want McCaffrey, but Davis is a weapon they can’t pass up.

15. Indianapolis: Haason Reddick, LB, Temple – The Colts could use some help with speed at the OLB position. Reddick fits the bill better than anyone available. Would be a solid pick.

16. Baltimore: OJ Howard, TE, Alabama – OJ Howard is still on the board?!? I doubt he falls this far, but Baltimore would love to have this weapon.

17. Washington: Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan – Yeah, I listed him at safety, but Peppers does everything. I can see Washington trading the pick, but since I refuse to mock trades, Peppers lands here.

18. Tennessee: John Ross, WR, Washington – a 4.22 40? That, my friends, is the deep threat the Titans have been looking for. Ross runs crisp routes with phenomenal hands. He’s the smart pick here.

19. Tampa Bay: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State – Bringing in Cook to pair him with former teammate Jameis Winston is the play here. Joe Mixon might be the better bet, but he hits women, so I refuse to let him get drafted in my mock draft.

20. Denver: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama – The Broncos need some help on the offensive line. Even with recent scrutiny into his play, Robinson is the best OT in this year’s class.

21. Detroit: Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan – My favorite name in the draft gets to stay in Michigan, adding a needed bolster to the Lions pass rush.

22. Miami: Forrest Lamp, G, Western Kentucky – Miami absolutely loves this guy. With Tunsil shifting from guard to tackle, Lamp has a spot ready with his name on it.

23. NY Giants: David Njoku, TE, Miami – OBJ can’t do it all himself. Eli needs more weapons, and Njoku is the second best TE in the draft. We’d hear more about him if OJ Howard didn’t exist.

24. Oakland: Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State – Ranked 25th in pass defense? With an offense that’s pretty solid, time to beef up the defense.

25. Houston: Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech – Here’s the thing, Houston REALLY needs a QB. Is Deshaun Watson the best available? Possibly, but rumors have Mahomes linked to Houston, and he could be solid in a few years.

26. Seattle: Kevin King, CB, Washington – Issues with Richard Sherman and lacking depth at CB keeps King in Washington.

27. Kansas City: Zach Cunningham, LB, Vanderbilt – The Chiefs could go several different directions here. Don’t be surprised to see Deshaun Watson go here, but I just like Zach Cunningham too much to leave him out.

28. Dallas: Charles Harris, DE, Missouri – Most rumors have Taco Charlton going here. But ol’ Taco should be off the board by now, and that’s the case here. Harris is the next best option to help a mediocre defensive line.

29. Green Bay: TJ Watt, OLB, Wisconsin – OK, hear me out. Yeah, Green bay needs a running back. Who is the best RB on the board? Joe Mixon. And, no, I won’t draft him. Not even for Chic-Fil-A. Watt is a solid pick up here though.

30. Pittsburgh: Carl Lawson, OLB, Auburn – Pittsburgh really needs a pass rusher. Takkarist McKinley could go here, but Lawson is just a massive force.

31. Atlanta: Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA – Why not take McKinley if Pittsburgh passes on him? Likewise, they should take Lawson if McKinley becomes a Steeler.

32. New Orleans: Adoree’ Jackson, CB, USC – Adding Derek Barnett was a huge plus, but that doesn’t change terrible coverage in the secondary. Jackson, however, could change that.

Have a good week folks, and as always, Poppa Bear loves you.
