I Cannot Imagine a Bigger Shift Than 'Navy SEAL' to 'Porn Star'

The Navy SEALs are one of if not the most elite combat units on the face of the entire planet. Their training is brutal. They are some of the most intelligent, skilled people on Earth. They can be trusted to execute any mission you give them.

So, you can imagine – this is probably a pretty stressful gig. How do you escape that? How do you shift gears and reset?

Why not try dabbling in a little porn “acting” on the side?

Courtesy of the San Diego Union Tribune:

Navy Chief Special Warfare Officer Joseph John Schmidt III has been living dual lives.

As a member of the Navy SEALs, the 42-year-old boasts a chest of ribbons and medals during his 23 years in the military, including a valor citation for combat overseas. To his East County neighbors and Coronado shipmates, he’s been the married father who has given pep talks to special-needs children in Los Angeles and toured the country recruiting for the elite Naval Special Warfare teams, even serving as the face of the SEAL program on its website.

Schmidt is also Jay Voom, the actor in at least 29 porn flicks during the past seven years, from “Apple Smashing Lap Dance” to “Strippers Come Home Horny From the Club.”

This is a real life Split, but with a lot less James McAvoy. This man is at least a dozen different men in one. I don’t see how he does it. It would be admirable if it didn’t seem so crazy. Navy SEAL, helping the kids, married, porn star. All rolled up into one.

I have trouble shifting gears from spreadsheets to blogging when I come home from the day job. Damn – can you imagine going from fighting off enemies in the jungle to having to keep yo dick hard for five hours while the director attempts to get every possible angle of your cod?

And, what do you tell people? “Ah, got a super covert mission to take out an evil dictator on the 4th. Have to go drill some tang on camera the 5th. So, you know what? Maybe we should aim for 12th for our family reunion?”

I don’t know – just seems like going from one extreme to another. Probably got a strong clutch gene in him that allows him to flip switches like that, and that’s what made him a Navy SEAL. Who knew?

Side note: We need to work on the porn names. “Jay Voom” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. I don’t have anything better to contribute, and really, who am I to tell a Navy SEAL how to live his life? Just from a marketing standpoint, I’m saying I think there’s room for improvement.

And, “Strippers Come Home Horny From the Club” is just too unrealistic. Those women have been working their asses off all night. They just want a sandwich and to go to bed. Ain’t need yo dick, Jay Voom. Totally ruined any element of realism I had for that film.

Major questions include whether Schmidt violated rules mandating that SEALs obtain advance approval from their commanders for outside work and whether the SEAL brass has been quietly condoning his film work. The investigation began only eight months before Schmidt had planned to retire, and disciplinary action could affect his rank and pension benefits.

“We have initiated a formal investigation into these allegations. There are very clear regulations which govern outside employment by (Naval Special Warfare) personnel as well as prohibitions on behavior that is discrediting to the service,” said Capt. Jason Salata, a spokesman for the SEALs.

Ah, as it turns out, you can’t just up and become a porn star if you’re a Navy SEAL. You need permission. That’s good to know in case any future Navy SEALs are reading this piece.

This story has a lot to digest (and no, that is not a porn dick joke). You can read the lengthy piece on the San Diego Union Tribune, but this is actually an incredibly complicated issue, and I’ve written too many words on it already. I probably lost half of my audience when they opened this up and didn’t see a dick pic. Sorry. As you were.
