Emergencies such as a raging apartment fire tend to bring our true character to the forefront. For years, men have been the butt of jokes attempting to exaggerate the importance of beer. You’ve heard it – “oh, he loves beer more than he loves me,” or, “beer is the fruit of life,” or, “if you cut him open, he would bleed beer.” I’m talking about all the classics.
But, I’m here to tell you – beer is a precious currency among men.

Three people were treated for their injuries after a fire in an apartment building in central Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a report of smoke coming from a building on Spring Ave. just after 12:30 p.m. Once crews arrived, two people were treated for smoke inhalation on scene, and then another was taken to the hospital.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Sioux Falls police said a person was arrested at the scene of the fire.
In a tweet, authorities said the person attempted to “save their beer” by pushing past police and firefighters.
See? I try to tell y’all all the time…beer is the nectar of life. It’s a miraculous beverage specifically designed to heal your pain. That’s a powerful thing worth saving. Sure, yeah – maybe people can become obsessed with such a power. That’s how people become alcoholics. It’s kind of like a super power. Too much and boom – you’re on the super villain side of the spectrum, absolutely corrupt with power.
But, in this case, I think our boy here was right to do what he did.
Actually, really – shame on these police and firemen for worrying about the safety and well-being of the other residents. That’s something that they could worry about after they secure the beer. From this story, it kind of sounds like they arrived at the scene, and were overcome by the sight of open flames bellowing out of a window. Probably didn’t even think about whether or not there was precious beer to save.
Maybe they just don’t have the clutch gene?
That’s probably why they arrested the guy – probably just embarrassed that they made such a stupid error. “This guy did our job for us and saved the beer.” That is how I think the police work, anyway.
On a related note, the Sioux Falls Police Department seriously needs to work on its meme game:

Just….so bad. Teenagers won’t read two words of that.
