Hilarious – all the marks are out there enjoying their indy wrestling over the weekend, then in comes Randy Orton with a BOOM ROASTED for the entirety of independent wrestling.
Aw, shit – the Tweet’s not showing up right, is it?
We just got a new web site, and honest to God, I’m still trying to figure out how to properly embed Tweets, but here’s the original message Orton re-Tweeted:

Brutal. Just absolutely off the top rope – brutal. Workers are hitting the roads, bumping all over buildings, and just generally busting their asses to make a living, but Orton simply does not give a fuck. And, let’s stop and take a look at what we know about Orton.
- He is self-admittedly best described as “a dick.” Some of the stories of him being an asshole are legendary. I’m not saying it’s a good thing – I’m just saying, no one should be surprised when Orton decides to be a dick on Twitter.
- He’s not too keen on “the indy wrestler.” Keep in mind, Orton has stated in a couple of different interviews that the WWE locker room is vastly different now than it was when he was rising through the ranks. Orton has said on numerous occasions that guys who come to WWE from the indies don’t really ask for advice like they used to. If I’m not mistaken, he even said it in a way that implied that guys who have worked the indies for 15 years come to the WWE thinking they already know everything.
So, in Orton’s mind, he’s probably sick and tired of hearing about how all of these guys can wrestle circles around him. Which, to be completely fair in this conversation, most of these indy darlings can wrestle circles around Orton. The Viper has had some incredible stinkers over the year – look at his feud with Bray Wyatt, the main event of Wrestlemania 25 vs. Triple H. He’s phoned a few in over the course of his career. He’s also put on some classics, as early as 2004 against Mick Foley. So, over the years, yeah – he’s developed a reputation as a guy who works when he wants to.
To an extent, he does have a point, though. I’ve been pretty critical of some of these indy matches that wrestling Twitter seems to laud as all-time classics. Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay immediately comes to mind. Some people called that the greatest match of all time which is completely insane to me. Sure, it was entertaining, but come on. In being fair to Orton here, we have to acknowledge that the adulation of some of these indy wrestlers and matches is a bit excessive and hyperbolic.
That said, there’s probably a better way of being critical than dropping this type of an elbow. I’m just not sure Orton knows any other way than brutal unabashed honesty. And, at the end of the day, it’s still Randy fucking Orton….13-time WWE Champion and stalwart of the main event for 13 years now. If anyone (not named John Cena) has the big swingin’ dick to come out and say this, it’s him.
Later, I guess all the “outrage” he had caused caught up with him. He must have felt guilty, because he followed up with:

Okay, so this “apology” didn’t really make things any better. Goldust had the hot take of the weekend though:

Look, I think the ultimate lesson here is to just not get mad on the internet. So what if Orton hates indy wrestling and decides to shit on your favorite guys? Is that going to stop you from going to indy shows? No. Gotta just shrug stuff like this off. Or, you can do like me and laugh at it.
